We have a daughter with Celiac Disease, which is an autoimmune disorder triggered by gluten. Gluten is a protein found in wheat, rye and barley. When she accidentally eats gluten it causes her great pain, be very sick for hours on end, and physical damage to her intestines.
We often have a difficult time getting food service that attempts to take the few small steps necessary to keep her from getting sick. Therefore, we rarely eat out, but when we travel we have no choice.
There seems to be an entire team of people who not only understand the severity of Celiac and are willing to work together to help each other at The Milestone Family Restaurant in Aberdeen, SD, but also our server went above and beyond to ensure our daughter would not gett anything that would make her sick. As a mother, I can't express how much it means to me when another person recognizes and honors her human dignity. As a kiddo, it means she won't miss all the fun things we've planned for the day in lieu of hours on the bathroom floor.
The food was great. The service we top notch. This restaurant is a Aberdeen gem!
Update Came back the next day, and the staff brought out one of the products, for us to inspect the ingredients (we didn't request this) because they wanted to be sure it was safe.
Our server told us she's worked here for 10 years and most the day shift is long standing and have become a family. Obviously, they are the kind of family who really take care of others. Any restaurant that can keep employees for 10+ years, especially immediately following the pandemic is doing lots of things right. Millstone is the kind of restaurant we are enthusiastic to support.
Plus, my bacon was perfectly done, and the pancakes were everything they...
Read moreI am posting regarding my experiences at the Millstone Family Restaurant in December 2019, which included 3 consecutive days of breakfast. The temperature outside was between -11 and 2 outside during my visits but once I stepped inside I immediately felt comfortable. We were immediately seated even with larger groups. Our waiter/waitress (we only experienced waitresses during our visits) timely appeared to take our drink orders and then food orders. The coffee was very weak, but they did a great job of keeping the mug full. The eggs over easy were average. The bacon was very average. The biscuits and gravy were pretty terrible: the biscuits tasted like they were straight out of the deep freeze, and the gravy out of a non-seasoned can of paste. The fruit was limited to canned pineapples. I must say the desserts looked absolutely delicious. We purchased a few for friends, but I did not personally taste. Overall my breakfast experiences with this restaurant rating is: clean and safe parking lot; good location; interior clean and taken care of; nice entry staff; terrible coffee; great table service; average breakfast food; desserts appeared to be very tasty; reasonably priced; breakfast food was very basic and uneventful. If you are considering eating breakfast here as a treat to yourself, I would recommend saving your money by staying home and frying your own egg and warming up store bought frozen biscuits. If you are looking for basic, store bought frozen breakfast food, then c'mon you are going to the...

I went to Millstone Family Restaurant in Aberdeen, SD today around 11 a.m. with my parents, hoping to enjoy a nice meal together, but the experience was a letdown from start to finish.
When we walked in, the waitress at the front didn’t smile or greet us, even after we said hello. She simply escorted us to our table and asked for our drink orders. My parents both requested coffee, but there was only one cup sitting on the table. I assumed she would bring a second one, but that never happened, so I ended up having to get a coffee cup from another table myself.
When a different waitress came to take our order, she was just as unfriendly—no smile, no greeting. As we waited for our food, we saw the first waitress standing by the register, completely distracted by her phone. It didn’t help that some of the waitresses were wearing hooded jackets, which made them look ghetto and unprofessional for a restaurant setting.
The atmosphere was bad, and the service was even worse. I just wanted to treat my parents to a nice meal, but the lack of professionalism and the overall "ghetto" appearance of the staff left us incredibly disappointed. I won’t be coming back, and I would definitely not recommend this...
