M & R Grill — Restaurant in Abilene

Man, where to start. We are regulars and have been for several years. I always come for lunch and my husband meets me due to having only an hour for lunch. Today (10.9.2024) we came for lunch. I was seated right away by a very nice girl, McKenna. I sat and waited with my 3 year old for 15 minutes. My husband showed up and I still hadn't been greeted or had my drink order placed. I walked up to McKenna and asked who my waitress was and she told me Kelley. I informed her I haven't seen anyone and McKenna told me she would find her for us so I returned to my table. Several minutes pass and Kelley comes to our table and we placed our drink order. We sat and waited about 5 minutes, and no drinks. At this point, I was so frustrated and have burnt almost 30 minutes of my husband's lunch. McKenna walked past us and noticed our drinks were not at the table. She returned shortly and brought us our drinks. Another 15 minutes went by, and we never saw Kelley. Several of the wait staff know our order because we enjoy the same thing every time we come in, so we knew what we wanted. At this point, we talked about leaving because we were being ignored. Kelley kept going back to the same table but walked on past us every time. Another several minutes passed, and Kelley came to the table to take our order. We put in our order and waited. People around us who showed up at the same time as I did were paying for their lunch and leaving. Our food came out with 12 minutes for my husband to eat and return to work. Kelley had a bigger table, but they didn't come in until about halfway through my wait time, but when they did, that's all she was focused on. I had to ask for my check, and then we waited yet again. McKenna saw us waiting and getting frustrated because we needed to go. She came to our table and took my payment. She returned with my card and receipt. I am extremely disappointed in this service. I have been here on super busy days and slower days. I feel today wasn't a crazy busy day. Kelley's attitude was not pleasant, and the service was atrocious. My husband wanted to take me out to eat for my birthday. There are not many good places to go in Abilene. However we have always had a good meal at M&R. This experience was quite out of the normal for this restaurant. We were seated immediately we sat for a few minutes before a young lady greated us. I ordered a Blue Moon and my husband ordered a soda, his soda came out immediately. We ordered shrimp off the regular menu for our appetizers. It came out hot and fresh, I still didn’t have my beer and I ask about it. We ordered our food a burger and fries and a strip steak. Our salads came out and I had to ask again for my beer. My beer came out and shortly following our meals came out. I had ordered a backed potatoe with my steak the potato was cold. I went ahead and ate my steak waiting for our waitress to come back. She never did a check back. After we finished our meal another young woman drops off our check. I had planned on having dessert and coffee however wasn’t even given the option. I was very disappointed. My husband put the credit card in the check and we wait for 15 more minutes and a different young woman picks up our check, 18 minutes later a different young woman brings our cc receipt out. I’m sure your wondering how we have the time down and because where we were sitting you could see a clock on a outside monicker. This was by far the worst experience I have ever had here. I know this is not M&R standards. I was extremely disappointed in not being offered dessert. Being in the service industry and being a previous business owner that was a lost sale. I don’t know what happened here. Usually, we have pretty good service. I’ve left positive reviews in the past, but this time it took us over an hour to get our food and they weren’t busy, the waitress seemed confused on what she needed to do. It took us less than two minutes to get seated with no weight Then it took 15 minutes for somebody to come get our drink orders which I also ordered an appetizer chips and dip. It took another 18 minutes to get our drinks and then another 10 minutes to get the appetizer then we finally ordered. We ordered our food and then waited another 25 minutes before it brought to the table when I arrived, the food was cold my sons each ate half of their hamburger. My daughter only ate one bite of chicken tenders. My wife couldn’t eat any of her meal and I ate a third of a Philly. Then when we complained about the food being cold they said the manager had to call the owner to figure out what to do they offered to microwave it. Are you serious? We said no thank you we’d like to check. They billed us for the full amount almost $100 manager didn’t even come to the table.
