My gf and I went there on a quiet date....when we arrived the place was almost empty and we got sat right away. The waiter came over dressed looking as if he didn't even work there, jeans and a t-shirt.....long story short...the food was actually great...kudos to the line cooks. However the service was aweful. The waiter gave us the impression that we were an inconvenience to him even though we were his only table. My GF asked for a certain kind of wine, his response was (with a scowl... ) all we have is what's on the menu. Then when she asked what was the closest type of wine he said "I dunno" and walked away. At the end of the meal he came and asked us if we wanted to go boxes, we said yes, but that we wanted dessert too. He didn't even acknowledge our request for dessert at 1st and as he started to walk away I said it again, that we wanted dessert. From a cross the dinning room (2 or 3 tables away) "YA I HEARD YOU!" THE FOH manager should reevaluate this individual. Honestly the food was great, however based on how we were treated....we will never go back. I had to apologize to my GF because I picked a place that treated us so poorly. I should never have to apologize to anyone about they way were treated in a restaurant! It was pretty clear that the server was irritated with our presence. It's not like we were there 15 minutes before close. ...we arrived 90 minutes before the restaurant closed so there's no reason to treat guest like that.... especially when u are a server who's pay is dependent upon...
Read moreI went in with my stroller and toddler to look for a seat around 1230. While half the tables were empty and had "sanitized" signs on them, the very stressed out hostess shook her head at me and said we'd have to wait a half hour using a tone that suggested there was something wrong with me for coming there for lunch. I would not mind being told I have to wait...but should I be scorned for not planning ahead and making a reservation? When staff act like it's a problem that patrons come in to ask for a seat, it must have just been a bad day... There were also three other parties waiting and we discussed how we were afraid to go out and enjoy the nice benches in the spring weather while we waited because no one took our names to keep track of who got the next table. Needless to say we left without ordering because one doesn't stand around in a corner for a half hour with a hungry toddler and a baby in a stroller and we didn't want to wait outside and possibly lose our spot in line. In sum, it looks like NYAJ is suffering from the covid problem of not enough staff which causes stressed out staff who mistreat customers. It's a challenge for all restaurants for sure but I'm just being honest that we had an...
Read moreFor years, the Acton Not Your Average Joe's has been one of our favorite restaurants. Tonight, however, was an extreme disappointment. The complementary bread and oil/herbs/cheese was delicious, as always, but everything else was pretty pathetic. To begin, the chowder appetizer was like a cup of paste. Thank God for the water we had to wash it down. Then, when the entrees arrived, the three meals were pretty disappointing. The mustard-crusted chicken BLT was flavorless and had one thin piece of bacon. Only one of the two "medium rare" burgers was cooked correctly, which is odd for a meal that should have been prepared at one time. To top it off, the french fries were cold. We could have done better at McDonald's. A woman who we believe to be the manager came to our table to check on everything and did bring a new burger and comped the chicken sandwich. Furthermore, the men's bathroom was in shambles, dirty and with a broken toilet paper dispenser. All in all, this was a very disappointing visit to a restaurant we've loved for over almost two decades. We will not be returning to this location ever again. I hope they can get their act together, or I am sure they will continue to lose their...
