I had the displeasure of eating at Sorrento's Brick Oven Pizza. From the moment I walked in, it was a terrible experience and I should have used my best judgment and walked right out.
I walked in and immediately realized that it was hotter than the deepest pit in Hell, it smelled like a dumpster on a hot summer day and the flies in the restaurant were all over. It was like a horror movie. I ordered a large cheese pizza with meatball topping and an appetizer of fried scallops. What a colossal mistake on my part.
The scallops looked like tater tots and tasted like they were fried in old, rancid oil. When I squeezed the scallop, it secreted a milky, greasy substance and when I removed the breading the scallop looked like a chunk of flesh taken from Yoda's face; old, dried and shriveled.
The pizza was a train wreck. It was quite possibly the worst pizza I have ever had in my life and I've eaten a lot of pizza in my 42 years on this planet. The dough was soggy and tasted like an old dirty sponge, the sauce was sickeningly sweet and the cheese...well the mozzarella was about as low grade a mozzarella as you can get. Think Ragu pizza kit in a box. It would have been a step up. I'd imagine the cheese that Aaron Hernandez is eating in prison right now tastes better than the cheese used at Sorrento's. The meatballs tasted like unseasoned chunks of ground beef and they smelled like feet. Other than the Mountain Dew I drank there was nothing worthwhile about my dining experience at Sorrento's. Quite simply, it was a grotesque abomination of what pizza should be.
My son is 12 years old and he does not have a discerning pizza palate. From Pizzeria Regina to Little Caesars, I've never seen him not eat any pizza put in front of him. He also thought the pizza was terrible.
I ate two scallops and we left six slices of pizza on the tray. We got up to leave and the guys behind the counter saw we were leaving 80% of our food behind. Not a word. Most decent restauranteurs would at least ask if there was a problem with the food. Not at Sorrento's. They made their money and could obviously not care less if we enjoyed our meal. I would literally rather starve to death then ever eat at...
Read moreI have not been here for a while due to a different job. Was in the area and decided to stop by at a 1pm on a Tuesday. Was concerned that the parking lot would be full. Not the case, it was empty. Walked in and to my surprise, I was the only one there. I soon learned why. Place was dirty, trash on the floor, everything in a disarray , no greeting as employees were too busy looking at phones. Chalk board menu above counter was sloppily half erased and prices all missing. Regardless I ordered two slices.
I had to use the bathroom while the slices were heating up. Cannot describe how filthy the bathroom was. Came back to pay for my pizza and they wanted $14.99 for two slices - no soda, just two slices. I was set back but decided to pay anyways. To my demise they use one of those card processing tablets, the ones that make it impossible to get past without providing a tip. So another dollar down the drain. Pizza seemed like it was hours old. Not the way I remember.
While eating, and after being ripped off, it was no surprise why I was the only one there at 1pm on a workday. Dirty environment, unfriendly, overpriced stale pizza.
Sadly left and passed by three employees while heading for the door, not one greeting as their only customer left.
Not the same it was years ago, looks like a lot of other people stopped going. Never again for me. Lesson learned.
Did I mention $14.99 for two...
Read moreAlthough they were able to turn around pizzas in under 20 minutes, I was disappointed by the gluten free pizza quality.
We ordered a cheese pizza and a pizza with roasted eggplant, ricotta, and caramelized onions. The roasted eggplant was breaded, which I did not learn until I opened the box at home. Thankfully, my partner can eat gluten so it did not go to waste. The crust on both pizzas was strange. In the middle it was undercooked and on the edges it was burnt.
Additionally, I ended up having celiac issues after eating the pizza.
I really wish I had a better experience because it is so quick and close to me, but I do not imagine I will go back.
Sorrentos, please consider updating your menu to say 'breaded eggplant' instead of 'roasted eggplant' to make it more clear that it has gluten. Additionally, consider another supplier for your GF pizza crust. Against the Grain and Udis have...
