Where to begin? Ever since local places have opened around town (Cascade Roadhouse, Pour House, Blue Moose, MULTIPLE downtown GR restaurants, etc) I have neglected this once frequented establishment. Just goes to show what has happened internally at Schnitz Ada Grill.
Tonight, my GF and I decided to give this place one more chance as we understand how the service industry works, and are willing to forgive. Immediately upon entering, the hostess had an attitude, as if we were causing issues looking for a meal at 745-8pm (well before the 10pm close). She acknowledged us with a very wry 'hi' and then proceeded to parade us around the dining room of half empty tables, before deciding on one that looked suitable. Strike 1.
Once seated and having a menu placed in front of us, the waitress asked what we wanted to drink within 1 minute. This was great service (at the moment), but when we responded that we 'needed some time, please', she said I'll just grab some waters for you while giving an eye-roll in the process. Maybe we stood out as indecisive because we were the youngest customers inside, but our cash was just as green and/or our decisions just as thoughtful as the older clientele dining that night. Strike 2.
TIP: for those in the service industry reading, this type of thing goes NOTICED. Especially when done by a 'seasoned' waitress who wears glasses,, like ours happened to be.
After placing our drink and an appetizer order, things appeared to be smoothing out. More tolerance was shown by us and I began to brush off the prior incidents. Mark, the bartender, has always done an amazing job. He is a cornerstone to this place and deserves proper acknowledgment. The appetizer came out hot. Not much more could be salked upon from those aspects.
But after about 20 minutes, we noticed that tables who were seated well after us had been receiving far more attention from their waiter/waitress as we looked at out watches waiting for entrées. The table directly next to us had all of their meal completed before we had our main course served. They had the exact same things as far as drinks/apps/main courses.
After finally sitting for an hour and 15 minutes, I had to inquire with the waitress as to what the holdup was. I asked if our meals were coming. Her response was 'Have you not seen me running in the back looking for it?' I told her that I had been watching, but brought up the fact that the other tables were already cashed out as we aimlessly waited. She responded back with 'well, they ordered salads!'
While this was true, they also had grilled food on top, which should have taken just as much time as what we ordered (especially after a 15 minute leeway period). Strike 3. Never argue with a customer
I told her that we understood how the service industry worked (accompanied by another eye roll on her behalf) as we work in it. The fact that she never said 'I will see where your food is' or 'I have no clue why you have been waiting so long' after being seated for well over a suitable time put me over the edge.
I requested our bill for the app and drinks, minus the main courses. She complied, but before bringing the tab as asked for came over with our food in hand and made one more remark along the lines of 'you sure you don't want your food? It is here now.' We politely declined then cashed out. Strike 4.
I now write this review sitting inside of Cascade Roadhouse where we were properly served. Never again will i return to Schnitz' and if you do, run away from the older blonde with short...
Read moreHad a terrible experience. I hadn't been here is over 10 years but got an Ada Deals gift certificate during the pandemic to support local businesses. My family and I went here to celebrate my husband's birthday since they had an outdoor seating option. The hostess seated us on the deck (only two other couples out there). Shortly after two more tables were seated on the deck. A waiter and waitress come and waited on each of the new tables, taking drink orders and then later food orders. We sat for about 15 minutes before we tried to call and wave someone over, to no avail. We were completely ignored. No eye contact made. When we went inside, no one was at the hostess stand. We left after 20 minutes of no service. When I called to let them know we had left, I was wished a good night. My husband was just trying to have a birthday dinner with his family and instead got a sour mood. Not sure if the waiter AND waitress working the deck really didn't see us, or if we were purposely ignored due to our multi-racial family. We are very distraught with the service and now have an Ada Deals gift certificate we do not want to use.
Edit: I called the Schnitz per the manager's request and was told this was a big misunderstanding. The situation was explained and I have been asked...
Read moreFirst things first - get the carrot cake. Just do it. Then get the potato salad; unless you really love their chips, pay to replace your chips with potato salad.
Great deli - some nuances to the place though: A "half" sandwich is just half the toppings - all the bread. So if you want slightly larger than regular proportions get the "half", and if you want it crammed full then get the "whole". Comes with chips or fries on the dinner menu (after 3:30ish), but for lunch you just get the sandwich (packaged chips and soda for a combo). Their dinner chips are pretty good - better than the fries. Waits are inconsistent. If you're going to take it out (or eat there at lunch time), order ahead. Take out at lunch is simple - you order from the take out counter to eat in or take out. Take out at night means walking over to the bar and ordering there. If you call it in you still have to pick your food up and...
