Smallcakes: A Cupcakery and Creamery of Elmhurst — Restaurant in Addison Township

5/18/19 Pros: Cupcakes were great, they were moist and had a real but delicate flavor. These cupcakes are not overpowering in flavor but sophisticated and deliberate in taste. Not too dense, not too sugared, just perfect. But if you do happen to like super Chocolatey or super lemony cupcakes, this is not the place for you.

Very friendly staff from what I could tell.

Neutrals: Cupcake selection was good, not massive but not small. Considering these cupcakes are homemade I wouldn't expect a massive selection anyway.

The frosting was finally not one laden with butter or cream cheese that ruins the delicate nature of the cupcake. However it was a basic frosting, certainly homade, but not unique. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

The design on the cupcakes was also plain. Nothing stood out, nothing popped.

Cons: The price, wow. $3.75 per cupcake that is of a normal size with basic decoration. These are very good cupcakes but not worth what they are asking. My favorite is they have this menu, a 2 pack $7.50, oh that's a deal let me get fou... Wait a minute... So it's not a pack it's just 2 cupcakes. Oh a 4 pack, you guessed it $15. So absolutely no incentive to get more unless you get a dozen. I'm not getting a dozen. Go to Nothing Bundt Cakes and get a bundtini for $1.75 for a comparable sugar fix.

A pint of ice cream is $7 but it's not a pint. It's there 2 scoops and only there stingiest 2 scoops that they don't pack down. Go to Brown Cow or Sweet Oasis, for a $7 pint they actually pack it down and hook you up with a ton.

First girl who waited on us acted like she'd rather be somewhere else. It was us asking questions to get any information from her. No one else was in the store when we arrived, yet no offer of any assistance was given when it was apparent we needed it. On top of it, the restroom was out of order. They were out of nearly everything in mid-afternoon. Only one pupcake left. I went up to get another cupcake to take home, and a second girl, Larizza, came to help. She was much friendlier, and when I asked about pre-ordering pupcakes, she offered up the information that more had just been made. So, I purchased two. I asked about another customer who came in and left, about the punchcard. Mind you, neither girl offered this punchcard. No sales technique at all, although we agreed second girl was much more personable. 2 small coffees 2 cupcakes and 2 pupcakes...

Only 3 stars and here’s why…. Buyer Beware!!!! Bought a dozen, was there with a friend so we each were getting 6. Person offered to put them in 2 separate 6 pack boxes. We thought that was really nice of her UNTIL as she rang us up and our bill was bigger than normal for a dozen. Yes, we go there often. She neglected to tell us there was an extra almost $3 charge for the box she so kindly offered to us. Cupcakes are great but this was an unpleasant experience. It’s not about the $3 since obviously we don’t mind spending money on good product. It’s the principle of not telling us there would be an extra charge and allowing us the option to still take the 2 separate boxes or just the 1 for the 12.
