Overview: 4 stars by the time we walked out the door.
Our experience started going direction of 2-3 stars, with food and service problems, but server turned it around and manager FULLY redeemed the overall experience.
Details: My daughter and I were spending our last night of a quick vacation to Dallas by grabbing dinner at Lupe's. She ordered a very basic burrito, and at the recommendation of the server I ordered one of the house specialties: 1/2 lb. meat trio fajita platter (steak, chicken, and shrimp) and recommended house made flour tortillas.
Chips and salsa were good. Charro beans were an extra plus. My daughter had this oddity where the server kept ignoring her drink - a glass of water that she had gotten from the bar prior to sitting down. She wasn't asked for a drink to my recollection and then wasn't asked/given any refills until we asked after the entrees arrived.
For entrees, my daughter really enjoyed her burrito and rice/beans. The burrito was reasonably sized, maybe a little smaller than a Chipotle burrito. She asked for a number of things left out and a few things on the side. They hit about 80% of that ask. She is a bit particular on what she eats and was still good with what was in the burrito. She was a huge fan of the flavor. Big win!
My fajitas were not as beloved. Considering it was a $24 fajita plate and a signature dish, I had some high hopes. The shrimp was pretty good. The beef and chicken, not so much. I had two slices of beef that had good flavor. The rest were overcooked, some with a flaky metallic sheen. The chicken was all overcooked and chewy.
Note: the meat platter photo was taken after a few shrimp were eaten.
Disappointment didn't stop with the meat. The plate really fell flat with its fajita veggies. It arrived with only a small spoonful of sautéed onions, two slices of excessively charred jalapenos, and one mini grilled red pepper.
While the side of guac and shredded cheese were fine. The pico de gallo was flavorless and contained reddish/whitish chunks that were hard to distinguish between tomatoes and onions (in flavor and color).
Disappointment moved to confusion when it came to the house made flour tortillas. The plate came with 4x 12-inch house made flour tortillas. These were the same tortillas used for my daughter's burrito. I now have 4x giant 12-inch tortillas and one tiny plate of fajitas. You would think that a place known for house made tortillas and house specialty fajitas, would have coordinated around making 6" tortillas sized for their fajitas instead of only 12" tortillas used for everything.
When eating my first fajita, not surprisingly I found I was eating more tortilla than anything else. It didn't take long for me to eat all the food from the plate that I found appealing, and still find about half the plate full of food.
Soon after, I asked our server for the bill and a to-go box for my daughter. The server asked if there were issues with my plate. I told her the truth about my meat being overcooked and chewy. I said it wasn't a big deal, we'd just get the check and go. To her credit, she alerted the manager who came over immediately.
I was okay leaving and being a little irked that my $24 plate of fajitas was lousy. I explained the situation and the manager was great in listening. But the manager wanted to make sure she made the situation right - which I really applaud her for. She started by indicating that she was going to take it off my bill, which was wonderful. She also went out of her way to make additional offers including cooking another one up for me there and sending me home with another for later - which I both declined as I was full, and we were flying out the next day. Her offers were greatly appreciated though. It spoke to her customer service and care.
At the end of the experience, the way the situation was handled by manager and server left both my daughter and I thrilled. I may not have loved how it started, but I did love the...
Read moreI have visited several Lupes locations in the metroplex, including the Addison location numerous times. Saturday night I took a good friend for a birthday dinner after raving over the food. Needless to say, we were very disappointed. The food was exceptional as always, but the service and bartender's attitude was extremely uninviting.
We arrived somewhere around 2100 and at that time there was only a single gentleman having dinner at the bar. The bartender was not behind the bar, possibly getting a head start on closing duties. We were finally greeted and all was well. Until, the glass that my margarita was served in (a thin rocks glass) shattered into several pieces resulting in alcohol spilling all over myself and the floor. The bartender did replace my drink, but not without appearing annoyed. A clean-up wasn't attempted till after we changed seats.
We order beef fajitas and bacon wrapped shrimp. I always eat the same dish and have never had my food come out not sizzling and smoking, part of the presentation. Until last night! Two couple arrived at the bar after we did and it seemed the bartender was more attentive and friendly to them. Saying this, their fajita presentation was sizzling and smoking, as I'm use to. I proceeded to ask the manager (Andrew) why our fajitas did not present as the people at the other end of the bar. He had no logical explanation. He said "It was sizzling when he put it in the window". Any restaurant I have previously worked in, sizzling fajitas are priority. At this point I am becoming upset with the evening and we decided took take our food to go. The bartender did not offer to box the food we had not yet started eating, but gladly supplied copious amount of boxes, as to hurry and get us out. May I add, this is the only time she appeared friendly. While we were boxing our dinner, we got the pleasure of watching the bartender sit down and enjoy her food at a booth across from us. Despite my better judgment, she was still tipped 18%, normally I tip 20-30%! Only because I have worked twenty plus years in the industry and understand that's how bartender/servers make their money.
On our way out I tried to speak with the manager Caleb, were he made eye contact and completely ignored me. I will continue to eat at Lupes, but it will be a long time before a visit the Addison location. If i have to travel an extra 10 miles or more, so be...
Read moreI am writing this review in complete disbelief after my family's dinner at your Beltline Rd location today, on August 28, 2025. We've been loyal customers for almost a year, always enjoying the atmosphere and service, but our experience with our server, Karen, was so far below any reasonable standard that I feel it needs to be addressed. This service was a direct contradiction to your company's promise to treat every guest "as we would the most important people in our lives." From the start, the experience was unsettling. Karen was visibly impatient and dismissive. When we ordered our drinks, she didn't offer any options or guidance on the selections. Instead of asking if we preferred a draft or bottled beer, or a regular versus a tall glass, she simply brought a bottle. A good server would explain that a certain beer isn't on tap and offer alternatives, but she didn't care to explain or offer any options beforehand. When we tried to get her attention for drink refills, she would deliberately look away. Not once did she check on our table or offer a refill. At one point, she made eye contact with me, but instead of acknowledging our request, she held a cold, deliberate stare for a moment before turning her back and walking to another table. It was only after we had received our food that a manager came by to check on us. We told him everything was fine, as we didn't want to cause a scene and were honestly too upset to address the issue at that moment. However, he did notice our empty glasses and kindly asked if we needed refills. This moment, more than anything, highlighted the stark contrast in service. We couldn't help but notice how friendly and attentive the other waiters were, which made the difference with Karen's behavior even more stark. It created a deeply uncomfortable atmosphere for my family, as it felt like we were being treated as second class customers. This wasn't just a case of poor service, it was a matter of basic respect and professionalism. I am genuinely shocked and disappointed by this experience. I hope that the management at Lupe Tortilla will look into this matter to ensure that all guests are treated with the dignity and respect...
