This was the most disgusting mexican food I have ever tasted. So much so that I was prompted to write this review. I have never bothered with reviewing anything before but this food was so terrible I just had to let the world know. I recently moved here from the southeast. One thing that we can do right down there is food, and with the number of mexican immigrants I suppose i have been spoiled with true 'mexican' cuisine. The salsa was not fresh, i saw them keep it in a jug in the back, not even on ice just in a warm jug sitting on the counter, they had this awful mexican 'cole slaw' which I could only stomach one bite, the beans were runny and the worst part was the cheese dip. At real mexican eateries you are served 'queso blanco' or white cheese dip with the option jalepenos. The cheese dip was this yellow, wannabe cheddar that was lumpy and chunky and not the good kind of chunky with fresh vegetables, the bad kind of chunky. It looked like rotten milk, I couldn't believe they served it to us. The food is WAY over priced. One taco al la carte was $2.50...WHAT? Back home you could get two for that price. I paid $8 for a veggie Burrito with no veggies. Apparently a veggie burrito means rice and beans. No people, rice and beans on the side, bell peppars, onions, mushrooms spinach and pablanos inside the burrito. My husband ordered a shrimp dish and all of the shrimp still had the tails attached, forcing him to eat a messy plate with his fingers. I would love to go on about how awful, terrible and no good this place is, but that may be over kill....proceed with...
Read moreHmmmm. I rarely write bad reviews. They are short staffed yes. On Sunday was one gal serving whole place. Slow to be expected. On my Arroz Pollo order I said No veggies, extra rice. Simple. I repeated to make sure she understood. Food came out fairly fast. Plate was stock. Veggies and very...little..rice... very small. She dropped plates and dissapeard so fast I couldent say anything I know she was running. After quit some time i flagged her down and asked for a side of rice, no big deal on the veggies. Another wait and brought a huge plate of rice...um i was thinking like a small bowl as in a Side... Ok great.. never came back to ask anything, no drink refill offers.. Then the bill. 19.50 for small portion rice and vegies, additional 6.75 for the plate of rice...Wow. Dads taco salad that was 12.95 was maybe 6" in diameter. Dam. I know everything is expensive. But last I purchased rice and salad mix was still on the cheaper side of things. I don't blame the gal for poor service, but I hate having to flag down the server. And the price/portion is poor. Food was and always is good. But I doubt well return...
Read moreThis was my second time eating El Comalon in a good number of years. I decided to try it again and my experience was a bit mixed. I ordered the number 11 with a side of tortillas and jalapenos. To my surprise my carry out order came with chips and salsa! The combo was a chicken chimichanga, a beef chalupa, rice, and beans. This is were the mixed statement comes into play. The chimichanga was my favorite part of my meal. Just the right amount of sauce and cheese on top, chicken that was robust flavor, and not greasy. As for the chalupa the beef was wonderful. . . But, the tortilla was way too big and the toppings were to the point of excessive. All and all, the main items were good. Now the real disappointment was the sides. The beans were for a lack of a better word bitter. Even with a nice amount of cheese on them the bitterness was horrible. The rice was somewhat bland and it had carrots in it. Okay, I can't fault them on the fact I don't like cooked carrots. In the end I have to say I was happy with my meal and I'll definitely try El Comalon again. It just won't be...
