Mr. Zub's Deli & Bar is a local favorite here in Akron, Ohio. They're serving up some unique sandwiches and pizzas and other tasty treats that nobody else is doing in town. From mac and cheese bacon sandwiches to Gyros, they offer plenty of variety and vegetarian options for you to choose from. The atmosphere is pub-like and is a hotspot for local college students from Akron University. Service was fine and food was overall good but there were some things that could have been better. Overall I would come back and give them another shot. Try them out!
I had The Rocky Balboa which is a classic philly cheese steak with onions, peppers, provolone and mayo on a soft hoagie bun. I had the Fried Jalapeno Ravioli bites as a side. The wife had the David St. Hubbins which is essentially a BLT with onions, turkey and cream cheese added on an onion bagel. She had the Seasoned Fries as a side. I'll start with the good being that I really enjoyed my wife's sandwich haha good flavor and the bagel was very soft which was nice because it was easy to eat. The cream cheese and turkey really made this sandwich enjoyable and complemented each other well. My philly had good flavor and you can tell they season their meat because the meat by itself was tasty. Some philly places have bland meat but not here.
Now, my gripes about this place started when we were ordering. We wanted to try the Gouda Mac and Cheese Bites and Mozzarella sticks but they were out of those and their funnel cake fries. It was an hour after they opened so being told they were out of it was a letdown. When we got our food my sandwich looked like there wasn't anything in there. I take all my pictures as they come when I open up the packaging or get the plate on my table but usually phillys are seam side down and filling side up but this was on its side and looked flat. There could have been more fillings because it seemed skimpy. My raviolis and my wife's fries should have been fried more. The raviolis were pale and not a nice golden brown and one of them didn't even have any filling in it and was just breading. The fries were slightly crispy and mostly soft and floppy. So had they added a bit more filling in my sandwich, presented it better and fried our fried food properly then it probably would have been a 4 star review.
On a side note, our friend with us had The Rick Deckard sandwich which was s buffalo chicken sandwich with bacon, tomatoes and lettuce and she said she liked it.
I have had this place before but this is the first review on Google that I was doing for them but the food for me just came up a bit short. Atmosphere is cool and I appreciate the outdoor seating and full bar and service wasn't anything to rave about but it was average. Hoping to have a better experience next time but I won't be writing another review for it.

Read moreI came here from Cleveland, with a friend who loves this place, and another first time guest.
We sat at the bar, and the bar tender did not greet us which was weird. We asked for menus.
She waited for us to ask her for our drink order. Then we asked her if we could order.
I ordered a veggie sandwich, she said it's sold out. Im sorry how do they sell out of veggies? Lol so I ordered a different Sandwich that I had to modify because it had Stracha on it.
Ok so the bartender placed our orders as Togo but never asked us if it was for there or Togo.
So then we had to open the bags up awkwardly so we can eat. She seemed upset that we wanted to dine in but our friend had a drink so she couldn't just leave.
We came here from Cleveland to eat here.
Our bartender doesn't seem to have the communication skills required to run a bar, she even stated that she doesn't normally work day shift. But it was after 5 pm?
She did not ring in our sides. We finished our sandwiches before they came out. I told her I didn't want my tots anymore.
Not even mad, just annoyed by her incompetence and am over it by this time.
Well I guess she decided to cancel both of my friends fries order and then didnt tell them. And when my friend asked about them she literally blew up on us.
It was like she was escalating in her head the whole time. She said she's gonna get a drink now. Oh yeah, I bet she was already drunk. Her communication level was like a teenager. It wasnt even busy.
She said "sorry, I don't normally work daytime" so I tried to have patience for her because I am a server and it's not always easy.
However a good service worker wants to communicate and helps to set realistic expectations. This was a really weird experience.
Also the Falafel seemed really dark. Maybe the fryer has old grease. That kind of what it tasted like.
There was a manager who apologized profusely and gave us cheesecake, she said she doesn't know why this girl puts the orders to go but that shes aware of that.
And she also mentioned that she has to de escalate issues with her often.
So if thats the case, they probably need workers. Any half way decent barmaid would clean...
Read moreBeing a huge sandwich guy, I was very intrigued by this place after reading the reviews. My wife's absolute addiction to Chipotle has ruined most of their food for me, so the fact that Mr Zubs is right across from Chipotle makes it perfect for us.
My first impression was the overwhelmingly large menu on their website! Never had I seen so many unique sandwiches that sounded so delicious on one menu! The names only added to my awe and amazement. I knew I had to try it at that point.
I really wasn't sure what to expect after walking in to their grungy cramped dining room, but soon realized that was part of the vintage look they were going for. I actually have grown to love the laid back, casual atmosphere. As far as the food itself, it was like a harmony of flavor-filled goodness my mouth had never experienced before! Who knew a bagel with garlic cream cheese, roast beef, and tater tots could create such an amazing flavor?! The Uncle Rico has to be in the top 4 sandwiches I have ever had, primarily due to the uniqueness of the cream cheese alone. I have tried some of their other sandwiches since. All of them were at least a 7 out of 10 or higher and worth trying, but the Uncle Rico is in another league for me. They are a tad bit pricier than your typical fast-casual restaurant, but you certainly won't be breaking the bank. Sandwiches range between $6-$9 with no sides included. Definitely worth the price. Now when my wife asks for Chipotle for the 2nd or 3rd time in a week I can gladly opt for Mr Zubs instead and never, ever regret it!
I have brought a few of my friends here and every one of them has been blown away. It's worth the 25 minute drive to come here at least once a month!
So in summary, one of the most unique, eclectic sandwich shops you...
