We volunteered to transport two rescue dogs from Birmingham to Athens on their way to forever homes in New York. It was a late afternoon drop-off, so we did a little shopping near Huntsville before heading back home. Instead of driving back to Birmingham before we ate, I looked for a restaurant close by that was something different than the typical restaurants near home. While driving around, "Bad Daddy's Burger Bar" caught my eye. It was such a catchy name, I just had to stop and give them a try. BDBB is a chain headquartered in Colorado, but I had never heard of them before. We were cordially greeted, asked if we wanted to dine inside or outside, and since it was such a lovely evening, we chose the covered outdoor dining area. I'm not sure exactly what theme this restaurant was trying to achieve because there was such a missmash of different designs. There were automotive elements, posters, and rustic mechanical/rural rough wood elements. The very small bathrooms even had what appeared to be exposed, galvanized plumbing around the mirrors. I think, as the name might dictate, they were going for a roadside biker bar theme. While there is a standard menu with lots of choices, there are pencils and a pad at each table where you can choose proteins, toppings and condiments (21 different sauces) to build an entree to your liking. My wife and I chose to order from the printed menu. She opted for the All-American Burger while I chose Emilio's Chicken (one of their signature, fan favorites). Her burger with house made chips was very good (I had to sneak a bite). The chips were great too. My chicken sandwich was excellent - a perfectly fried chicken breast with mozzarella, jalapeno bacon, chipotle mayo, lettuce, tomato and onion. My fries were not quite as crispy as I would have liked but they were perfectly seasoned and served with Bad Daddy sauce which was very flavorful. Kudos to our server, Bobbie L. She was fantastic, making sure our every need was met. Since BDBB is around 100 miles from my house, I probably won't frequent it often, but I recommend that you give it a try if/when you're...
Read moreMy experience at BDBB will be the last! I tried to order an alcoholic beverage and was asked for an ID. I’m 67! I thought the person taking the order was trying to be “funny”.. She said “it was the law!” When I informed her that it was the law to confirm legal identification for patrons that might look under 30. I am 46 years over the legal limit and although I would like to be confused for 19, my appearance clearly says otherwise! She told me that she was just doing her job! I sort of buy that but I asked for the manager. A person came by and told me it is BDBB policy to Identify Everyone ordering alcohol and she could not get me any alcohol without showing legal identification. What made this more irritating is that last week I met friends at the BDBB on south parkway and was not asked for identification. Rather than argue with restaurant staff over id policy I chose to leave and dine at the restaurant next door that served me alcohol without any bullying hassle of requiring an id to be served. NEVER since I have been in my 20’s have been asked for an id to confirm I am over 21! My opinion if this in fact the policy of requiring id from anyone who orders alcohol, it should be posted at the door so as making potential guests aware of their policy and not set up for an embarrassing situation like I...
Read moreAdult Burgers were pleasantly EXCELLENT, albeit some were cooked more than desired temp (which tends to not be uncommon). While prices are high, they were commensurate with our go-to burger joint (Old Black Bear). Had been to the memorial pkwy location several years ago and was un-impressed, but decided to try the new Madison location for which the burgers were far better from what I remembered. Went on a Sunday evening and place was full and kitchen was backed up as it took longer than expected to get our 6 meals, but food came out hot. Service was average (didn't bring special request of ranch with food, so had to re-request and wait). My two 10yr olds were unsatisfied with the very small kids plates and expressed disatisfaction with kids burger and chicken strip, but I know they would have loved the adult burgers, which makes this place even more cost prohibitive for our family outing, so that is something to improve upon. Because of this, we'll likely not be back anytime soon with the whole family and choose something that everyone likes for less, but it is another option for when just wife and I are out and about. On a side note, I'm not a fan of all the the fencing they have up as it feels like your in a cage (same feeling at memorial location, however this is obviously a part of...
