A wonderful and needed addition to Madison! The food was absolutely delicious, with the signature JNN taste you’d expect. The staff members were friendly and attentive, making sure we felt welcome and satisfied. We received our food quickly after ordering and everything was hot and fresh. The Carolina-style pulled pork, half chicken, fries, mac and cheese, and watermelon were all phenomenal. Their smoked wings with the Morgan Co. white sauce is also a must have!
Their new restaurant design has a nice, modern feel for an excellent dining experience with great ambiance. However, we were a bit surprised to discover that this new location has adopted a fast-casual setup instead of their traditional table service locations across Alabama. Their new ordering system was very efficient, and they even offer online ordering from your table if you’d like to skip the line at the counter. Despite the elimination of full table service at this new location, their payment system defaulted to a 20% tip, which was a bit surprising and unnerving.
One other thing that caught us off guard was the change in policy at this location regarding their famous cheese biscuits. Unlike other locations with table service, they no longer provide complimentary baskets of their signature biscuits, but rather, provide two with each entree and otherwise charge $5.99/dozen.
Overall Jim 'N Nick's is the best BBQ in Madison and remains worthwhile. We’ll frequent this location for their speed and convenience with their fast-casual setup (and their double drive-thru). However, we probably still prefer the Huntsville location with table service, simply because you get more bang for your buck with their complimentary biscuits and with Madison’s apparent tipping expectation despite being a fast-casual operation.
The quality of their food, the friendly staff, and the modern facilities make it a solid...
Read moreHonestly, tonight was an 'off' night at Jim 'N Nick's. We have eaten there many times. In fact, it's one of our favorites in the Clift Farms area. The food and the service have always been top-notch, but tonight things weren't quite running smoothly. There was no sweet tea brewed, and we had to wait on it. Then someone dropped off our silverware and said he would bring back cheese biscuits. He didn't.
We waited for about 20 minutes for our food. Then when everyone else who came in after us received theirs, my husband finally went to ask about ours. There was some kind of mix-up with it and it looked like the food had already gone out.
So, this all sounds pretty bad, right? But you know what? The owner stepped in and apologized, got our food out to us in quick fashion. The food was delicious, as always. Then as we neared the end of our meal, he came back to our table and handed us a ticket showing a reversal of our payment (which we had not asked for) and said the meal was on him, with apologies again for things not going well tonight.
Long story, short....this was one night out of many times we've been there. The food has always been excellent and the service is usually really good too. I don't know what was going on tonight that made things different. But we all have days like that sometimes and need a little grace, don't we?! It was very clear that they wanted to do everything they could to make things right, and they did!
We will certainly be back to our Jim 'N Nicks and I'm guessing the next time, things will be just fine....and I'm definitely still giving them 5 stars....
Read moreAlthough the food was decent, the behavior I witnessed at this establishment was completely unacceptable and cannot be ignored. This review is not about the food, it is about the culture that leadership is openly displaying.
As we entered, two men were speaking to a young Black girl, a high school senior, just outside the doors, within clear earshot of customers. One of them told her, “You say, ‘Yes, boss,’ and keep it moving.” At first, I thought I must have misheard. Unfortunately, I had not.
The young lady, having just been yelled at, respectfully asked for an apology. Rather than showing any form of leadership or professionalism, they told her that “bosses” do not apologize, and insisted again that her proper response should be, “Yes, boss.”
I have been a loyal customer at this location and have recommended it to others in the past. That will no longer be the case. If this is how they feel comfortable speaking to young employees particularly in public, I fear what happens when no one is listening.
I'll continue supporting businesses that value dignity and respect. This is not...
