I came here this past Tuesday and I'm honestly not one to write a review but it has just been brewing in my mind. I literally landed back in town Tuesday at midnight from SLC after attending the opening weekend of the Sundance Film Festival and came here for lunch with a friend after barely getting any sleep. I ordered the "Fun Guy" Burger and it was an absolute horror. To start not only was it missing the poblano peppers included in the description but instead of the bottom bun being toasted it had being burnt on the grill. Not charred but burnt, after tasting it I told my friend since it was her suggestion to eat there and I noticed the cooks overheard me saying that it had been burnt since they both looked towards us (we sat at the bar on the end closest to the pizza oven) and saw one of them throw down his hand and shake his head in a way that said it's no big deal. A burger at a $15 price point should have more attention to detail by the "chef" but most importantly genuine care to the quality of the food they are putting out. There are plenty of places in town to get better quality food with people that actually give a damn about what they are serving. Especially given that lunch for two people costed about $40 with tip (please tip the waitstaff, food quality is not their fault). The only positive note about this establishment is that the waitstaff did provide good service. However if you would like to avoid abhorrently sub-par food served with bland and soggy "chips" do...
Read moreYou might think that because Cappyccino's is the cheaper, more casual, more accessible version of Cappy's that this is an inferior restaurant. This could not possibly be more wrong.
There is nothing I can say about the food that I can know for sure will apply a year from now because the Cappyccino's menu is constantly evolving. And by 'evolving' I mean this in the good way. The bartenders know their drinks inside and out, too. Unlike Cappy's, which is constrained by its owner, Cappyccino's gives its talented staff a greater level of creative freedom, and this shows in the menu. I've had one of the best burgers in my life here, and every time I've visited there is something new.
(I might be banned for these reviews though, because unfortunately there is That Kind Of Owner. So, fingers crossed.)
And, yes, it is a good date spot. If you want to go here for lunch or a date or a night out, show up during late lunch or early dinner or, if you must, two hours before closing. (Please do not be that person who shows up just before closing. Cappyccino's is unique in that many duties are handled by many different roles, so this will burden the staff more than it would at other restaurants.)
There's a wellspring of potential at Cappyccino's, and I suspect that my review will be dated when the restaurant gets...
Read moreI normally give everything I eat at this place a five star but today I was severely underwhelmed. My house salad was supposed to be with ranch but their version they added themselves to the salad was just weak, watery and bland and not creamy and it just made the greens soggy. Zero buttermilk flavor. I'd rather have the greens naked then with whatever they put on it. The Pozole was sooooo disappointing. At first it wasn't warm enough and when I got it back it was better. But the preparation is extremely unauthentic. Its faux white man version. The pork was extremely tough and chewy and cooked in cubes instead of being so tender that it shreds. The thick brownish gray "broth" was very Bland and there was no flavor of seasonings, I couldn't taste any garlic, no cumin, no oregano, no green chilies. It even needed salt. Had to ask for Chula for some flavor Seriously, If you want authentic pozole go to your local Taqueria....
