UPDATE: My husband and I went back after about 2 months. There was no wait this time and we got there at about 430 on a Saturday. The food menu has expanded significantly and I tried the Nashville chicken sandwich with truffle fries which was pretty good. We of course got the garlic knots again, YUM. Service was better this time. But for the love of god, please have someone revamp the cocktail menu. I’ve tried a good amount and there’s not a single one I would have again. Bumping 3 stars to 4.
Original review: My husband and I have been here a handful of times, and while we understand they’re still in their “soft opening” phase, here’s my honest feedback: -wait times are crazy unless you’re there early and waiting in line for them to open. -the food is decent, the reason why we keep going back is for the garlic knots and Motown Detroit style pizza (the crust is to die for). -the service isn’t bad, but often have to wait longer than normal to get your waitresses attention. It’s pretty much like the second you order food you’re not much of a priority anymore. -the atmosphere might be my favorite part of this restaurant, including the outdoor fire pit. -the cocktails aren’t great. Outside the wait time, this is the biggest reason I hesitate on going.
If they can figure out how to change the way they make their cocktails and if the wait times weren’t so crazy, I wouldn’t hesitate as much.
Also, when we went last night, the crowd made it feel like we were at a bar versus a restaurant. The people were pretty rowdy. We’re going to give it some time before we go back, and hope that there’s some...
Read moreI have been a longtime fan of the family of restaurants that is Mooses Tooth and Bear Tooth, so I was really excited to try Eye Tooth while back in town for a week.
I liked that they carried some of the Mooses Tooth items, as well as some stuff that cannot be ordered at Mooses Tooth or Bears Tooth.
I got the wedge salad, which admittedly I was surprised was not an actual wedge of iceberg, but it was still delicious and refreshing once I figured out how to cut the romaine leaves with my knife. I got an old standby: the Backpacker Pizza, but I watched the servers walk by with one of the Detroit style pizzas so now I know I have to go back to try one! We also got the Truffle fries with black garlic dip as a shareable. Huge portion! We had leftovers. The truffle flavor was JUST the right amount. Not overpowering at all. I got a delicious cocktail, which I can’t do at Mooses Tooth so that is a win.
They also have pasta on the menu! I’m excited to try in the future.
We went on a weekday a bit after 4pm so parking was a breeze, and we were sat immediately. It definitely got packed as we were wrapping up and there was no parking available as we left. So, plan accordingly if dining later in the evening or on...
Read moreEye Tooth has been open for almost one monthsso I figured I'd give it a try after everyone in town went. The wait at 8pm was still 30 minutes for a party of one. The bar was full. So similar to Moose's Tooth you'll be waiting a while. No worries I had an audiobook. And many people were hanging out by the fire pit in the snow waiting on their buzzers.
I wasn't that impressed with my drinks. I had the Eye Tai, their take on a Mai Tai. It wasn't horrible but something was off. My second drink was not on their cocktail menu but since they had orgeat (almond syrup) in my first drink I knew they had the ingredients for a Trinidad Sour. Yeah, that was off too. But it wasn't on their menu so I just enjoyed the vibes and small chitchat with neighboring guests.
I ordered the 8 Mile Detroit style deep dish pizza. It's a 25 minute wait which is normal for these pizzas, so if this is what you want and you're with a group put your order in early. Highly recommend. Delicious. Lots of leftovers.
It would be great if they could expand their hours to include lunch as many would definitely stop by. They are still finding their footing but it nice to...
