For a first timer get ready to be blown away by the thought that they will prepare something for you and if you don't like it they will make something else. That's a warmth that can't be explained. I ordered a veggie scramble and a Gluten Free waffle. This place handle allergies so well and so fast that it takes a non-wheatie non-meatie like me completely off guard.
We took a seat at a picnic table and started to read the writing on the walls. As a wordsmith, I was super inspired to witness the lost art of autographing. So many mic droppy statements by past patrons, I was deeply inspired by a quote by the owner, Derrick Green. It's worth the trip just to read the walls alone if you love words, you can literally stay for hours. I was so inspired that I joined the fun and took the liberty of leaving my mark as well.
The food arrived quickly as other guests looked on to see our reaction to our first bite. It was like a community celebration. We were beyond pleased. At first glance, one might think the gluten free waffle was burnt, but it's crispy goodness that good for you. So be patient and savor that first bite and you will be in for a culinary kaleidoscope of flavor.
My Aunt & Uncle were pleased with their chicken & waffles and both talked about how tender the chicken was. My Uncle has an aversion to all things healthy so it was awesome to be able to eat in an establishment in which we were all equally elated about the flavor explosion that was happening at the table.
The veggie content was so high in the veggie scramble that I was impressed, I could eat it every day for the rest of my life. And I only eat eggs occasionally. Needless to say, I was pleased with my WAWN experience. I would've never expected such culinary excellence tucked away in a lil strip mall. My palette and pocket book were well pleased.
P.S. The bathrooms are the cherry on top. Beautiful mural art that will take your...

Read moreI’ve been to Waffles and Whatnot three times in just the past couple of weeks, and every visit has been incredible! Leer (sorry if I’m spelling that wrong!) has been absolutely amazing each time—so kind and welcoming—and the same goes for the other cashiers and cooks. The whole team creates such a positive vibe from the moment you walk in.
My go-to meal? The chicken, mac & cheese, and waffle loaded with cookie butter, strawberries, blueberries, and bananas. On my very first visit, they asked what flavors I liked, and I told them “sweet and savory”—and they nailed it. Ever since then, it’s been my regular. I always think about trying something new, but I can’t help coming back for that combo—it’s just that good.
Today, Leer mentioned they were exploring opening new locations, and I told her Fort Worth would absolutely love a place like this. With the owner being a veteran and Fort Worth having such a strong military community, I know people there would rally behind it. We love supporting our own.
Also, if you really listen, the music playing in the background is all original—and every track tells a story about the restaurant’s culture, energy, and mission. That level of intention just makes the experience even more special.
All in all: great people, great food, great energy. Hopefully we’ll meet again in Fort Worth!
Editing to add a BIG shoutout to the man running the window that food gets picked up from. I saw him let a customer (who looked like he was wearing a kufi) know that the Mac n cheese was cooked in bacon grease. The customer was unaware of this and was grateful and changed his order. That kind of cultural awareness and honesty shows that place isn’t just about great food—it’s...
