My husband and I met another couple for dinner. The hostess guided us to a booth as soon as we walked in. Our drink order was taken rather quickly, and we received our drinks, salads, and soup fairly quickly. We also received edamame as well.
The soup and salad were all right, but not special. Our server took our order which consisted of 2 rolls each and an appetizer of gyoza. The gyoza were pretty darn good; steamed but then crisped up on the bottom.
We received our rolls in a reasonable amount of time. The server put in one of the rolls incorrectly & just asked if our friend could just eat it. He said yes, and she was relieved and very thankful that he accepted that. However, it’s pretty customary to offer the patron what they asked for unless they refuse, isn’t it?
The rolls weren’t good. They weren’t rotten or anything, but grocery store sushi is better. The size of the rolls is outrageous (I used to make sushi in a restaurant setting, and I get that this is hard, but still). They fell apart upon one bite… and couldn’t fit in our mouths. And I have a big mouth! The softshell crab in the spider roll was waaaaayyy overdone—so fried that it reminded me of the turkey from National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. Even the most delicious parts were flavorless.
I had another roll that was, yet again, ginormous and oddly flavorless. My husband agreed that the food was disappointing. Our friends did not come close to finishing their food either. We left wishing we’d gone to the Thai place next door.
The service was fine, if odd. The interior is a bit rundown & they had a club playlist going—mmmm, sushi & techno lol. I was very disappointed & will not...
Read moreWe were here for the first time and we will not go back. We were waiting for our order and during this time the waiter often came up and asked if we were ready to order and he did so 3 times in 5 minutes. In addition, we had a table in the corner and in the aisle at the same time. I was sitting in the aisle, taking up half of it, and the waiters, when they ran, caught on our chairs. The water they served initially smelled of chlorine. The wooden chopsticks they brought were not packaged, and they put them on the table (which was clearly not super clean). At the end, they brought the bill and automatically indicated a 15% tip. Are you serious? For what? For such service? Well, you did not understand this, so I am writing here for everyone. As for the food, in principle, it is not bad. But a salad for 6 dollars will look like 2 spoons of seaweed. This is sad. I would like to say a special word about the elderly woman with makeup who was intrusive and rude. The toilet is a separate horror. There are greasy stains everywhere, door handles, dust and pieces of food on the floor. There was also dust in the hall near the table.
And the most interesting thing is that some otherworldly owners do not give a discount to the military. If you are a military man, you will not get a...
Read moreI've been to Ronnie's a handful of times. The outside looks decent. The inside is heavily decorated. It looks like the community has greatly contributed to the scene and decorations with photos and charity contributions from their patrons which shows the level of trust and connection they have with everyone in the community. With that the staff are nice and make sure your needs are met. The restaurant has a low-light dinner kind of appeal when you go inside and the seating is comfortable. (Table or booth) The space inside is not small per se' but it's not a large open area either. The sushi bar is somewhat compact so you may not get the close up view of the chefs if you really enjoy that. They have many food options which are also very well prepared. The drink menu is not nearly as extensive and that was a little disappointing. Especially since I enjoy certain kinds of sake. Sushi in general is fairly expensive but here you can usually you can get your whole meal including the role and drinks for $20-30. Which is good for the quality of food you're getting because some places charge $40+ per role. I would argue that they're at least above average in the competition in anchorage. They seem like they can compete with bigger, more established sushi...
