Blackbeard's B & B Bar-B-Que — Restaurant in Albany

The 1 star is only because there's no opportunity for negative stars. Major issues at this restaurant. They can't use covid, busy or under staffed as an excuse. I have never been more embarrassed of making a dinner choice in my life. I really should have taken the 4 hostesses that kept say "five minutes" and "five more minutes" for seating a family of 5 the red flag. After 45 minutes later, we were seated. I've thought about this all night and I can't really figure out what happened, maybe it was because I was still hungry. Sweet tea and waters took another 30 minutes to get. We chose the mushrooms and the pickles as appetizers, wrong choice for the mushrooms crumbs! Pickled were good. (Thank goodness because that's the highlight of our dinner) Another hour and half went by and our food is brought out by 2 females that apparently do not like one another. The tray our food was on got slammed on another table while one of the females said "you got to do this, I've got my tables". Mind you, neither females were our original server whom boasted about his title. As the female server passes out our plates she comes to what she assumes is a basket of fries. I mention it's for my grandson and believe it or not... she used her fingers and rummaged around the basket to find the mini dogs. I was in shock and actually starting to think hidden cameras were watching us for a reaction. At this point we are missing a few items and we ask for them, she does saying anything and just walks off. (I truly believe wholeheartedly she was under the influence) I went to the kitchen area and notice other customers are actually walking in the kitchen to find whatever. As I stood outside the kitchen door, our original server appears and I request the missing items. Back to my seat I go and as I sit down, I notice a foul smell coming from my son's plate. At that same time, he is turning all shades of disgust and runs to the restroom. Once he returns I tell him that his fish and/or oysters are spoiled. Our server later removed those items from our bill. We are at 3 hours into this disaster and our server appears asking if we are ready for our check and to go containers. I can say that my Dad enjoyed his turkey but everything else that could be safe for our dogs, we're taken to them. We paid, left and sizable tip and left hungry. All of us except my Dad, he enjoyed his food. Drug testing is a must in this place and there's tons of liabilities that could and maybe should close their doors. It's sad because so many small businesses are closing for things out of their control. These issues at this restaurant are controllable and needs...

I was going to go to sonny's down the street but decided to switch once I saw this place! Parking lot was full, the building looks pretty nice, figured out might be a good place to eat! I walked in and made a joke to the hostess that I was going to sonny's but decided to come here and I asked if I made a good choice, never expecting an honest answer and was surprised when she said "no"! I then waited for the servers to figure out whose section I was in, I told them I didn't care who served me but maybe I shouldn't have said that, my server was horrible, I asked her if the brisket is cut thin and she said that she didn't know, I asked if she was new and she said that she's been here for a few month, I asked her if the food was good and she said "eh" which I took as a no but decided still not to walk out and go to sonny's! I ordered the brisket and potato salad and upgraded the second side to a bowl of clam chowder! She comes back about 5 minutes later and tells me that she totally forgot that they ran out of brisket, so I ordered the ribs with the same sides! I was expecting my chowder ahead of time like normal places do but no big deal, my food comes out and it's a small dish a chowder, I ask her if that was a bowl and she said they messed up let me get you the right one, I said don't worry, change it on my receipt, she then said that she already printed the receipt and she only charged a dollar for the upgrade and that it would have been 2 or 3 more for the bowl, so I said then you messed up and put the wrong one and she agreed! Lol! The potato salad was alright, a bit too much mustard but tolerable, the ribs were sponges of fat and grease, the clam chowder tasted like clam flavors mashed potatoes! When I paid the server stood right there until I signed the credit card slip and said that she has to make sure that she gets her pen back! I should have listened to all the signs and went to sonny's! Very disappointed, left half the food! I am now going to go find somewhere else to get a quick bite to get the grease taste out...

Update March 2025. This last visit was lacking. The service and atmosphere is still great. Our food today looked ultra basic. The burger was basic, the wings were very large, the catfish looks like that frozen bag catfish, grouper looks from frozen and Wasn’t fresh tasty. The pork chop looked good, the side vegetables were very regular, fries are fries. Brunswick stew was ok. The summer salad was very basic with mostly canned or jarred items on top. I feel like if you get it certain pieces of fried fish or certain items you may have a different opinion about the food then someone else who got different items. Stick to what you know works here like okra, grits, and fried fish.

Portion sizes are good. The food and the drinks are always large and fairly priced. Some items can take longer than others but generally they are pretty fast even with a packed house. The fish is always crispy and I have some to take home every time. They have great size selections and the staff is always cool. Don’t sleep on Blackbeards, you could eat here everyday. My girl order the grill fish and it was very dry but i always get fried fish or bbq which I’ve never had a problem with. Don’t order grilled fish lol. Or ask them not to overcook. I ordered sweet potato soufflé this time and was a little nervous when I received it because it was darker than I expected but after tasting it it was quite delicious so I had to give them five stars every time for overall quality and selection in...
