Last night was the first and last time I visited your establishment. My group and I were disappointed to learn that after ordering drinks (after standing in line 20 minutes, we weren’t allowed to leave the premises. I think it’s reasonable to expect that a bar that is offering drinks at the Albany Block Party would have a special license to allow people to go around the block! Not being able to take drinks to the stage area and only offering their patio, which has no view and also loud noise from generators where you can’t even hear the concert, is deceiving. Secondly, I've been to many concerts, rock fests and different events with a mix of alcohol and a lotta people. As the alcohol provider, the job is to decide to serve or not, but the most important thing is to remember people are there to have fun. Last night I had just one beer and an hour later asked for another and did not act drunk, but was cut off anyway. I've been a bartender before, so I know when doing so, you have to make sure that if you cut someone off, you have good evidence of intoxication. It should not be a personal thing like just saying: I don't feel right or I don't like this. The server must not have had training if she didn’t know to look for slurred or exaggerated speech, staggering walk, bloodshot eyes, or alcohol smell on the breath.
When my group went back to the Garage for a second round an hour after the first, the bartender rudely and dismissively told me she was only going to serve me water and that she had to cut me off. My sister-in-law and wife and I were genuinely surprised and baffled and asked why. She told us it was the way in which I ordered the drinks as the reason she cut me off. It didn't ruin the night because Everclear was awesome, but unfortunately I heard from others that they had similar experiences and that’s a shame because a block party...
Read moreMy wife was invited to join her co-workers for Trivia Night and I got dragged along. I am not a drinker and I was happy to see that they serve Diet Pepsi in the can. We were not able to get a seat with her co-workers, however, she recognized a person she used to work with, so we sat him and his son.
It was Ash Wednesday, so no meat for my wife and I. We were able to fulfill our religious rules by ordering grilled cheese sandwiches and tater tots. We could have also had cheese quesadillas.
The best part was the competition between the tables to see who could answer the trivia questions. We were there for about three hours and managed to get third place.
I would recommend going to The Growler Garage &Tap House to anyone who enjoys beer and ciders. I was told that the bevearges were excellent. Can't comment because I didn't partake. The food was bar food and was good for bar food. Better than fast food. What makes me give it four stars is the fun and comradery I had with everyone. The staff acted like host instead of servers. I felt like I was at private party with a bunch of friends having a good time.
Thanks to The Growler Garage &Tap House for making a boring...
