Loved every minute! It was our first time in.. first of all, the staff was extremely welcoming when we first walked in. Everything was explained to us and we were seated. We went and picked our first game.. however, there were SO MANY choices we couldn't decide. The gentleman that had been helping us came by and asked if we needed any help picking a game. We told him what we liked to play and he quickly started showing us games. We went with a game he recommended that we had never heard of. It was really fun and we enjoyed it. We ordered food and drinks. The lavender London fog is sooo good! Highly recommend. Their sandwiches are amazing, I recommend the Three Little Pigs for sure. We played another game and got some more drinks. All in all, we spent almost three hours there and would honestly have spent more if we didn't have somewhere to be later on. It's a good time for a date, family or just a group of friends. You might think a place with board games wouldn't be this much fun, but it is! Sure you can buy your own games and play at home.. but the atmosphere, drinks and food at Empire make it well worth going out and playing there. There are so many game choices, some you've probably never heard of. And the best part is if you don't like the game, simply go get a different one. You don't have to worry about buying a game at the store and hating it. Cannot wait to go back! My family is already looking forward to next time. Thank you to the staff who are extremely nice, welcoming, helpful...
Read moreMy absolute favorite local spot. Board game library, what an idea! The rates are fiercely competitive ($3 an hour of gameplay) and there more games available than you can imagine (bookcase after bookcase crammed full). The available food and drink are a little pricey but goodness, so worth it. My personal favorite? The lavender london fog. It's simply unbeatable. The staff are beyond helpful. Often, I walk in with a pack of undisciplined people, none of us with an idea of what to play, and with only a few words of inspiration a staff member picks out the perfect sequence of games for us. Once, I have only a one word emotional description of my day, and a staff member picked out a game for me based on that alone -- perfectly. It's like a strategy based aura reading. What's more, Empire is the monthly host of The Liars Game, a live game show based on Two Truths and A Lie! Unfortunately, beyond a few intial tables, the library is not wheelchair accessible. Large gender neutral/single...
Read moreI would give 0 stars if I could. Tonight was my first time going to Empire (and it’s my birthday). After my girlfriend, her service dog, and myself walked in we were not greeted or acknowledged. After waiting 5 minutes at the host stand we sat ourselves. Another couple walks in a minute after we sit down and they are immediately greeted by the manager who also gives them the rundown of how it works. After bringing it to his attention that we were not greeted, he immediately starts questioning us about the service animal even after we offered to show her official identification card. Never have I felt so embarrassed, discriminated, or unwelcome. I hate to say this, but I feel like us being black was the issue. Seemingly it is difficult to find places in Albuquerque where I don’t get stared at or treated differently than the other paying customers. Sorry not sorry. Don’t support...
