*edited for bad experience as of 7/19/2024. I ordered 2 egg drop soups and was by far the most disgusting soup I've ever had. It was snotty, glue-like, and way too thick to even enjoy. Clearly the owner has changed their cooking practices to prison style. My next issue is the crispy noodles, the basically buy the canned chow mein dried noodles and then turns around and sells bags half full for 75 cents a piece which is triple what the value is actually worth its not even homemade. If you order online they do not add on the charge for extra crispy noodles if you ask them to you have to pay in person for that after you already paid. I also ordered sesame balls and fried donuts both of which were equally a disappointment. Sesame balls were gummy and had very little red bean paste inside, the fried donuts were soaked in vegetable oil and over cooked, then covered in sugar that had bugs in it. I have been eating at this restaurant for many years and it is no longer the wonderful classic hidden gem that I once knew it to be. I am so disappointed for what I paid and the fact that I live so far away and I came just for the food. I am lowering my review to one star now. The owner is price gouging for food that is unclean and mostly not edible. I'm beginning to lose faith that there is any decent Asian restaurant to which we can enjoy their food and culture they don't cook with passion nor carry on their cultural traditions through their food and just because we live here in America doesn't mean that we all don't know what it once was or tasted like because some of us do. And I already know that the owner will not reach out and try to make this right unfortunately so sadly this is another restaurant that I will not go to anymore.

My husband and I have been wanting to try more local restaurants. We googled Chinese restaurants in our area when we were in Albuquerque. The Great China restaurant came up. The reviews weren't too bad, and we decided to give it a shot. We entered and were immediately greeted and given a seat. The interior wasn't very appealing to look at. The floor boards were lifting, boxes stacked everywhere, and chairs could definitely use a good cleaning. Below is a picture of the booth I was seated in. There were several people eating and a lot of people who came in for togo orders. The servers were very nice. As for the food, it was really good. They started us with egg drop soup. It was good but was too goopy. I ordered the sweet and sour pork and the fried shrimp with fried rice and an eggroll. The servings were huge. I loved that each fried item had its own flavor. It didn't taste all the same as one would think with so many fried items. We didn't care for the eggroll as it was only filled with cabbage. My husband ordered the peppered beef and sweet and sour chicken. The sauce on the beef was really tasty. My favorite was the flavor of the sweet and sour sauce. The fried rice was OK, I liked that it wasn't overly saturated with soy sauce. But it would have used more vegetables, and I could barely find the egg. All in all, it was a pleasant surprise. Cost was very reasonable.

Terrible!! THE WORST Chinese food in Albuquerque. Considering the overall poor quality of Chinese food in ABQ that speaks volumes. We ordered the family dinner (~$14/person) for 3 people. Each dinner comes with a fried wonton, egg roll, chicken wing, and soup. Plus fried rice and 1 entree per person. We ordered 2 wonton soups and 1 hot sour soup. 1 sweet and sour chicken, 1 pepper steak, and 1 mixed vegetables. We also got 2 appetizers: fried potstickers and the fried donuts. The only item that was okay was the fried rice. The wonton soup was edible, after dumping a bunch of sriracha into it.

We tried calling in the order. After 2 failed attempts (rang rang rang disconnect and ring ring, please hold, disconnect) I finally got through. She couldn't hear me on my cell. Tried again from the land line, still claimed she couldn't hear me. So online order. First you are forced to register to the website, no way to place the order as a guest. Lame. Total was $54 added a $6 tip. Planned to give more cash when we picked up the order. No order confirmation to my email. No time for pickup. Double lame.

Got to the restaurant. Decent decor, not too busy, ample seating. But we were there for carryout. Stood around for about 10 minutes for the food to be ready. Total time from placing the order to walking out the restaurant almost 90 minutes. For Chinese food on a Thursday evening. WTH?!?!

Took less than 10 minutes to drive home. Starting with appetizers. Fried potstickers were burnt and there was very little of the flavorless filling. 0/4 The fried donuts were raw. They were cold to the touch and not cooked. Also whenever I have ordered Chinese fried donuts they always have a dusting of cinnamon and sugar. Not these ones. 0/4

Moving on to the soup. We ordered 2 wonton and 1 hot sour. We received 3 wonton. Portion size was fine. 1 wonton in each portion, some bean sprouts and slivered cabbage. The broth was okay. 2/4

On to the included sides. The eggroll was raw, as in the outer most part of the wrapper was crunchy but the 4 other layers were soft and raw. The precooked filling was cold and I think was just cabbage. I can't say for certain because I literally spit out the first bite. -3/4 Yes, that bad. The chivken wing was undercooked. Still pink!! I refused to try any of the others. -8/4 200% bad!!! The fried wonton was a burnt wonton wrapper. We didn't even bother trying them. 0/4 The fried shrimp was a itty bitty shrimp with with a huge portion of flavorless undercooked batter. 1/4 because we were able to pull the tiny shrimp out and eat it.

We ordered 1 sweet and sour chicken, 1 pepper steak, and 1 mixed vegetables. We received 3 mixed vegetables. They were cooked okay, not too soggy, but they were swimming in some flavorless sauce (?). Vegetables included broccoli, carrots, mushrooms, celery, water chestnuts and onion. 2/4

The fried rice was the only thing that was eaten. There were 3 small boxes of the rice. Between 2 adults and an 11 yo boy we didn't even finish one little box of rice.

We will NEVER go back. Absolutely a complete...

When my friend and I arrived and sat down, the server came quickly and got us our drinks. But after we ordered our appetizers and main entrees, it took nearly 30 minutes for food to arrive. At that time, the server brought one of the appetizers, but in that time, my friend had already gone up twice to ask when the food would be ready.

The appetizers were tasty - we got Pot Stickers and Chicken Cho Cho. But, when the main entrees arrived, it was nearly 40 minutes after we had ordered the whole meal. Although the portions were big, the rice tasted bland, and the server initially forgot the fried shrimp that came with my Cashew Chicken, although she brought it later in a separate bowl. In addition, the egg rolls tasted like the vegetables inside were rotten.

We didn't finish our main entrees, and we asked to speak to the manager. When we calmly explained that we couldn't finish our food, because we didn't enjoy it, she responded by saying that we shouldn't complain, because it was a lot of food. Of course, we explained that getting a lot of food doesn't excuse that we didn't enjoy it. At the end, the manager only charged us for the appetizers, but it felt like the staff didn't provide adequate service, both during and after the meal.

Honestly, it felt like the cooking staff cut a lot of corners with our meals. The rice didn't have much taste, my friend's General Tso's chicken was so heavily fried that he couldn't cut some of the pieces with a fork, and my shrimp was so heavily fried, that it had appeared to have more fried fat than shrimp. On top of that, one of the customers try to publicly shame us for complaining about the food, and when I tried to explain to her that as customers we had a right to complain if we didn't like the food, she attempted to get up and start a fight. During this time, the manager was right next to us and did nothing to discourage the customer or to apologize for what had just transpired in the restaurant.

Needless to say, my friend and I will not return for another meal. We were extremely disappointed, as much as by the service as...

This little gem is a must!! We drove in Friday for the Balloon Fiesta and got in a bit late. Great China was open until 9 and looked promising. We are so glad we came. Our party of 8 came here and were greeted so warmly. They seated us and I was immediately impressed with the decor and seating.

The center tables have the carved rosewood chairs and the booths along both sides look newly upholstered. The lamps above have the rosewood accents with the colored glass inserts. The decor on the walls are equally impressive and EVERYTHING was clean. Even the lamps at the very top didn't have dust nor cobwebs.

Ok. Now about the food. After they took our drink our, they immediately came out with egg drop soup and fried noodles. You can order lunch portions at dinner. I wasn't too terribly hungry so I ordered the crab rangoons and a large bowl of hot and sour soup. My mom and my sister shared an order of fried rice. My boyfriend and our oldest son both ordered orange chicken with fried rice. My son's girlfriend ordered the sweet and sour pork with fried rice. Our middle son ordered won ton soup and an eggroll and our youngest ordered a small bowl of chicken noodle soup and an eggroll.

The fried rice was delicious. I absolutely loved my hot and sour soup and it was cooked perfectly. The orange chicken was made fresh and was so crispy. The sweet and sour pork was also delicious.

The portions are so large that we had to take leftovers home and had enough for another meal.

All of us ordered drinks and they were always kept full. The servers here are so on top of things and were so friendly that you just want to go back and make this your regular spot.

Also, the prices are so competitive that it cost us just a bit over $50 for everything. We were so impressed with the food and service that we tipped 30%.

If you are in the area, you need to try Great China. I wish I lived closer because I would definitely...
