I have driven past the Gyro Shack for months now and just thinking on how delicious or not their gyros would taste! Well, today was the day and I had little longer lunch time to make a dash to the Shack! It takes about 15 minutes to get there but they do have a drive-through To make it easy for short lunch time folks like me. Did I mention I really like a tasty Gyro and this is my first impression meal? Do I get disappointed? And what about the tzatziki sauce? lol! So, let’s start from the drive through, great service taking my order and they even gave their opinion of the best side to try! Since being a traditional gyro guy, I ordered a #1 combo. The Original and opted for the lemon rice. It also had a lemon cookie! Next, the drive through was super easy to maneuver to the window with my larger truck. I am liking it already! If you have ever driven through a drive through and had to readjust your vehicle position not to tap a pole or wall, you know what I am talking about! Anyway, after getting to the window, the server was quick and very helpful passing me the food and drink. I like his catch phrase, “see you tomorrow”! That stayed on my mind all the way to work. Let’s talk food! The gyro was impressive, plenty of meat, ample tzatziki sauce, onions and tomatoes! The pita bread was perfect. Still warm, very soft and the right amount of chewiness! The tast, definitely above average tipping into the perfect range. If there were just a little more meat, voila a 6 star rating! Just kidding on the 6 stars. It was delicious. Next is the lemon rice, still warm when I got to work, very well balanced lemon flavor and the rice texture was on Q. Not crunchy from being over warmed and just the right size for my lunch. Next is the lemon cookie! Not sure if they cook them there, but it was very tasty with more lemon flavor. Almost reminded me of the old SNL skit, more cowbells! More lemon taste in every bite. To top it all was a smooth.sweet tea to clear my pallet every few bites! All in all, a great lunch that I do intend to visit again, tell my friends to try and maybe just stop in to try the Baklava. Thank you for the...
Read moreI usually don’t leave reviews but this place deserves more than 5 Stars based on my experience today and the last 10 visits. Today accessing “the shack” was harder than usual because the city was working on the side street and I was just hoping I could fulfill my craving. There were several cars in front of me and usually the line goes super fast so I knew something was up. Less than 5 minutes I still made it to the window and was greeted by who I assume was the owner. He was WORKING SOLO!!! Because of the city working on their water access he was told they would need to close so he sent his staff home early but because they hadn’t shut it off yet he was still making food himself and doing everything on his own. The guy was sweating he was working so hard. When I got to the window he had the audacity to say I’m so sorry for the long (5 minute) wait. I told him I’d wait an hour if I had to because of how good this place is. He brought me my food with a smile and gave me a large drink he didn’t charge me for. Bottom line is this place is flat out amazing the food was still perfect and as I was at the window a city worker came up to the walk up window and said hey we’re shutting him down in 20 minutes and he said “ok thank you so much for letting me know, I appreciate you let me try to get out as many customers as I can.” You don’t find that kind of work ethic in Albuquerque let alone in this world anymore. I was beyond impressed. All I have to say is this place is more than incredible and I’m a customer for life and all of my friends, co workers, and family will be frequent customers of this well run, delicious, outstanding establishment. Thank you for making my day and thank you for your hard work and boss mentality. It’s inspiring....
Read moreHello all! I waited to try the San Mateo location for a few months so I could allow them time to get over the hurdles of a new open and leave an honest review. I ordered the #3 The Super and I requested it as a rice bowl for a $1 upcharge. I also requested chicken rather than the Gyro meat (I find the Gryo meat to be drier than the chicken and i prefer the chicken flavor). Service was excellent. The staff member that took my order was very polite. Had no issues with my requests. Repeated everything back to me. Just great experience. The property was very clean. The menu boards were clean and easy to read. The speaker was very clear. Now about my meal; as I mentioned I prefer the chicken. It is very moist and tender, well seasoned. The bacon was crisp. The tomatoes were ripe and firm, not over ripe or unripe. Gets was equally portioned. The lettuce was fresh and crisp. The Taziki sauce is pretty darn tasty. Ok, now for the rice. I will admit i was nervous. At the other location my rice seemed to be slightly crunchy more times than not, by here, it was fully cooked, tender, and very well flavored. My...
