Banh Me & U — Restaurant in Albuquerque

I have eaten twice at Bahn Me & U and have had terrific meals. Their Bahn Mi sandwiches are super; the best I’ve ever eaten. I had the A1 Special. On a crusty French baguette with soft interior as they are supposed to be, not the soft buns often used elsewhere. The perfect amount of mayonnaise on the bread. The meats were very tasty with pickled daiko and carrot toothpicks, cucumber, jalapeno and cilantro made for a delicious sandwich. I also have had one of their “hot” plates served on a sizzling cast iron platter with roast pork, pate, a meat ball, ham and a small wedge of soft cheese. Bell pepper, onion and two small cherry tomatoes were bathed in the sauce. Complete with a sunny side up egg perfectly cooked with crispy whites and runny yolk. The sauce was complex, slightly sweet and savory too. I’ve eaten Asian hot pot dishes, but this was different. Not in a cast iron pot but a platter and no rice! Comes with a baguette. One of the very best meals I have ever eaten. My daughter and her boyfriend are vegan and there were vegan options. It is clean, bright and modern inside. Very friendly and inviting staff. Their baked goods including delicious macaroons, sweet rolls and cookies were a wonderful and surprising bonus at this cafe. Good value for your money, too. Decent matcha, poor pastry, but i had a couple issues with this experience. The girl with the septum piercing failed to acknowledge me standing at the counter and upon me mentioning that I’d never tried their drinks before, she didn’t care to explain anything at all. Not to mention, none of the staff had any knowledge of the kinds of drinks they were serving either which is definitely a red flag. The staff in the kitchen made sure to stare at me like they had no idea where they were, making me uncomfortable as it was unsettling. The cashier who I previously mentioned threw our pastry onto the table carelessly having no respect for the establishment or me. The interior design of the business however was beautiful and I respect the attention to detail that went into making it. Seems like all the budget for this place was put into the design and not into hiring quality people. Disappointing, considering the amount of effort that is being put into their design...

Disappointed! I had high expectations as I had heard good things. My daughter and I have been trying boba tea places all over town. Upon entering BANH & ME is clean and asthetic.

The young man behind the counter was not familiar with the menu or big on customer service. Saying things like those are just carbonated water and our syrups or I think that one is strawberry and guava and the other mango. Hmm.

The drinks took a very long time to make, we were the only customers there and still waited longer than expected.

The drinks were very artificially flavored in taste and the jellies were too big to be sucked up through the straw. I had to fish them out after the “juice” was finished. The strawberry foam left a thick greasy feeling on the top of my mouth.

I give 2 stars because the cups are super high quality and can be reused.
