Junction Bakery has certainly made a name for itself with its inventive pastries and inviting atmosphere, and my recent visit was a testament to their creativity and charm. However, while there were some standout moments, a few aspects of the experience left room for improvement.
The star of the show was undoubtedly the churro croffin, a clever fusion of a churro and a croissant-muffin hybrid. This innovative pastry was a delight to the senses, with its crispy exterior giving way to a soft, fluffy interior. The cinnamon sugar dusting added just the right amount of sweetness, making each bite a heavenly experience. However, be warned: the churro croffin is quite substantial, and I would recommend splitting it with a companion to fully appreciate its richness without overwhelming your palate.
Moving on to the beverages, I opted for a dulce de leche latte, eagerly anticipating a robust and indulgent coffee experience. While the latte was satisfactory, it didn't quite live up to the expectations set by the bakery's reputation. The coffee flavor was somewhat muted, and the dulce de leche notes were not as pronounced as I had hoped. It was a pleasant drink, but it lacked the wow factor I was seeking.
The atmosphere at Junction Bakery was fantastic, with a warm and inviting ambiance that encouraged patrons to relax and savor their treats. The decor was charming and well-curated, creating a cozy and comfortable environment. However, the service left something to be desired. The coffee orders were called out randomly by the type of drink, rather than by customer name or a number system. This led to confusion and a bit of a free-for-all, with multiple people grabbing coffees that weren't theirs. I found myself waiting for approximately 20 minutes, standing in anticipation of my order being called. A more organized and efficient system would greatly enhance the overall customer experience.
Despite these minor drawbacks, Junction Bakery still manages to impress with its innovative pastries and delightful atmosphere. The churro croffin alone is worth a visit, and the potential for an improved coffee and service experience leaves me hopeful for future visits.
Considering the highs and lows of my visit, I would give Junction Bakery a rating of four out of five stars. With a few tweaks to the coffee offerings and a more streamlined ordering system, this bakery could easily become a five-star destination for pastry lovers and coffee...
Read moreJunction offers a wide selection of really solid food with incredible service and a delightful ambiance that's perfect for a relaxed and casual coffee, breakfast, brunch, or lunch. I came by for a post-church lunch with a friend on Sunday afternoon and absolutely loved it. We were seated outside, and, while the flies were a bit aggressive, we still thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
My friend and I both opted for their salads -- I went with their sesame kale salad and she chose their vitality citrus salad with salmon. Both salads were absolutely delicious, with a wonderful balance of elements, delightfully refreshing, yet satiating dressings, and really fresh ingredients. The sesame kale salad was, honestly, quite basic and didn't stand out, but it was also made with incredibly fresh ingredients and was very predictable. It's not my top recommendation if you want to try out something new and creative, but if you aren't looking to be too adventurous with your salad choices, it's definitely a really solid and safe option.
I will also admit that adding salmon -- or any protein, for that matter -- was a bit pricey, but my friend said that that the grilled salmon was delicious and perfectly cooked, so it was definitely a worthwhile indulgence.
Also, I can't say it was the best thing to pair with salad, but I saw their vegan hot sauce on the table and just couldn't resist wanting to try it out -- it was absolute perfection. A wonderful balance of sweet, savory, salty, sour, and, of course, spicy flavors, with a delightful kick. Highly recommend giving it a shot. :)
Junction has definitely become one of my local favorites in Del Ray for a quick, casual bite, and I can't wait to try out a few more items on their menu -- they seem to have a bunch of amazing options, and I love that everything is clearly labeled for various dietary...
Read moreI started coming here three days ago. The first time I went the service was amazing. My potatoes were hot and I got a lot for what I paid for. The second time I came (yest) a different lady took my order. I got to work and realized my potatoes were cold, flaky, and I literally counted 9 potatoes, complete opposite of my first experience. Today I decided to call my order in before coming. A lady answered the phone and when I ordered a side of potatoes and told her my name she said she needed to give me to her Manager. The Manager got on the phone and said that she will not take a phone order from me. That I would need to come in to the bakery first. She "told me" that I called there a week ago and placed an order for a side of potatoes and didnt pick it up. I was completely confused and explained to her that was not me. She responded that it was me because she took my order and my name is Melissa and I am ordering a side of potatoes. I told her again yes, my name is Melissa but that wasn't me. She had a bad attitude with me and decided not to order at all. I called back and asked her to check the number I was calling from and compare it to the other Melissa that had called in. She said she doesnt keep numbers and carried on. All in all I realize why I received the bad quality of potatoes I ended up throwing away yesterday. My whole office goes to this bakery. We are a small business here on Mt Vernon as well. We have all agreed that this was not the best way to handle the situation and she could have asked as opposed to making an accusation. I was not the lady that called in and am truly disappointed with how a Manager chose to handle this situation. Our office has decided to stop giving them our business. Our many Customers that I refer to them will stop as well. Hopefully any other Melissa's do not call in and ask...
