I walked in to look at the menu and to place an order. There was no one at the front desk to help. It definitely wasn’t busy at the time. It was a slow day. I decided to grab a menu and sit down and look at what I want to order for dinner and A younger girl passes by me and waits at the register and doesn’t acknowledge me as a customer and just seems like she has an attitude and doesn’t say hi how can I help you? Just waits there for bit on the register and says are you picking up? Like hello? Kid? A polite hi would be nice before you ask a customer anything else. She just seemed rude and doesn’t have any manners for a kid her age. Just a dull young kid with no personality whatsoever. Not sure how she even got a job acting that way. Lol 🤦♀️😏 She didn’t even take my name for my order. Which makes me want to laugh at the kid. Like ummm 🤔 ok weird kid! 😂 Anyway no one else in the restaurant says hi just passes by me like I don’t exist. This definitely makes me not want to go back. The Atmosphere and service sucked and as for the food it was pretty bland. I won’t be back. I would much rather pay the extra money to get better quality food, service and order Chinese food from a better atmosphere....
Read moreAt a time of bland global chains, Gourmet House is among Algonquin’s distinctive, local gems of the Fox River Valley. This was my late mother’s, God rest her, favorite restaurant for good reason. An inviting atmosphere, delicious food, wide-ranging menu, and unbeatable prices. The generously-portioned lunch options are served until 3:00 PM. See photo of my lunch portion firecracker chicken for under ten bucks. My wife loved the house lo mien. “House” means chicken, shrimp, and beef served together in a savory mix. When I declined an egg roll, the server graciously offered crab rangoon as a substitution at no charge. Xièxiè Gourmet House! The clean, welcoming, tranquility of the dining room transports one out of the ordinary, far-flung suburbs of Chicago and into the rich exotic flavors of Asia. The tables are thoughtfully set with beautiful blue glasses, white linen tablecloths, and quality dining ware. This is one of the few places you can still dine without noisy TV screens blaring and flashing ads in your face. Savor the flavor, be present in the moment, and crack open a fortune cookie for a pleasant...
Read moreI don't really like Chinese food, howver, my husband loves it. So whenever he wants Chinese food, which is about two to three times a month, I just get a chicken fried rice. Today I ordered my usual Mongolian beef lunch special, and a small chicken fried rice. When she handed me the bag, I questioned if the CFR was in the bag too, and she said yes. Sure enough when I got, I had no lunch. As it turns out, they replaced the reg fried rice that comes in the lunch special with CFR. Of course they charged me an extra $2.50 for this. When I called them they asked if I wanted to come back for the CFR. She said it would be at no charge. Since I had no lunch, I went back. When I arrived they CHARGED ME, but gave me a 10% discount. This was a whopping .70 cent off. They didn't even take off the $2.50 extra they charged me for getting Chicken Fried Rice instead of regular fried rice with the lunch special that I didn't order!! So two trips and my time is only worth .70 cent? I hope that this plus not crediting me the $2.50 was worth losing a regular customer over. I'll certainly never order from here again. Very...
