I came to this McDonald’s store on Fri Oct 25th around 11:30AM with hopes of buying a happy meal toy without the meal. The cashier told me that I can’t buy the toy by itself, but needed to buy a meal for each toy. The manager at the time, Julio, explained in an unfriendly and annoyed-leave-me-alone tone that for the current toy, McDonald’s requires the purchase of a meal. I mentioned that I’ve been to other locations and haven’t had an issue. He said that other stores are supposed to require you to purchase them; trying to make it sound as if this was the standard that set forth by higher ups at corporate. I saw a paper laminated sign on the wall that mentioned the requirement. It looked official enough for the store, but not official enough that it looked like McDonald’s corporate had made the policy.
I knock off stars for unfriendly manager, cheap rules, and most of all dishonesty. I'd probably would have given 3 stars at least if Julio didn't LIE about other locations having the same policy and using a pressure sales tactic.
I went to another McDonald’s, Date and Commonwealth in Alhambra, and Justin (THANK YOU JUSTIN!) with a smile, quickly dispelled any notion that McDonalds requires customers to buy a meal for a happy meal toy. So if you don’t mind the unfriendly tone of management, special rules on happy meal toys that make you feel cheated, and spending the extra cash, then this location is perfect for you. Placed mobile order 40 min ago and after being in a long line at the drive through lane, the employee from the other side took forever to respond and said give me a few min … then it was dead silence for another 2-3 min … the cars behind mine became more and more and people started to honk .. I drove to the window and explained the situation and provided my order code, the rep at the window informed me I would need to go around and get back in line to the drive-thru lane or go inside to the counter. I parked, went inside the counter, the lady advised me I will need to go back to the drive-thru lane, they can’t take the mobile order already placed inside. I told her that contradicted with the instruction her coworker at the window just advised me. The guy was next to her and remained silence. After a few arguments, she said okay she will input my order for me. Up to this point, there wasn’t a single apology for the LONG -WAIT or the inconvenience. A few minutes went by, she came back and informed me my sweet tea order was cancelled not on their list. I showed her the order receipt list from my phone, it was clearly on there and paid for already thru the linked credit card thru the mobile app. Finally a manager came over, validated the order and apologized. And how dare I interrupt him for just standing there and staring at the machine doing nothing but just being friendly and saying hello. He got so unreasonably angry and demanded if I needed anything in a questioning tone. Obviously I ordered something in the drive thru so I answered yes that I was just waiting for my order however I just pulled up so they can take their time. He just answered Oh in a very annoyed tone and snapped his head back and stomped away. Disappeared for a while and lapped back later towards the end of the transaction. This was literally the worst service I ever had. I never had such an aggressive encounter with such a bad attitude. I was not loitering I paid over $20 for my order, in the drive thru. Such a bad, unprofessional, unhappy, disrespectful employee. The shamrock Oreo McFlurry was ok there was an unappetizing look to it and it was pretty melted by the time I received it.
