Our second visit...the firs.t didn't warrant a review and this one is from a former restaurateur who doesn't want you to get your hopes too high. A tamale wrapped in a corn husk that is 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick is not a tamale. Guess it was on the bottom of the pile. Hormel puts them in a can with sauce if you need a tamale fix. This is a strip center diner/restaurant with no frills. All meals served on plastic disposable plates. A dishwasher is an expensive addition to a kitchen that would make the tamales cost 15 bucks for 3 and make you feel you were getting a real meal. Hand painted mural on the wall and plastico decorations on the ceiling. Clean, but somewhat lacking in atmosphere. Menu must be completely a la carte....saw no beans or rice offered or served with our orders, nor salad . Beverages, small or large, no refills offered. The food, I gave them a second chance, but for the price I doubt that they will get a third visit. Had lunch here today with friends after hearing great reviews from others in the area. I didn’t even know there was a Mexican restaurant in Pamlico County. What a pleasant surprise! Talking with the owner they’ve only been open about 6 months but are gaining a following. The food is fresh and authentic. The staff is friendly. We had the chips with fresh guacamole. I had the mega burrito. Didn’t need dinner tonight as I ate the whole meal at lunch! They’re really trying to make this work and I am happy to see some more restaurants in this area. My wife and I had dinner there. Two days after eating there we noticed on our account that we were overcharged by over $20. When we called, we had them ring up everything that we ordered and it came in at $51 and some change. We left a tip that made our total bill to $60. We were charged over $80.
