A Hidden Gem Worth Every Bite – Secreto Kitchen & Bar
From the moment I walked into Secreto Kitchen & Bar, I knew I was in for something special. The ambience is nothing short of stunning—warm lighting, elegant décor, and just the right touch of Southern charm to make you feel at home while still feeling like you’re somewhere exclusive. This was for LUNCH!!!
Now, let’s talk about Sebastian—the waiter/host extraordinaire. This guy is a rockstar! Attentive, charismatic, and with a knack for making you feel like the most important guest in the room. If you’re lucky enough to have him as your server, just sit back and enjoy the ride.
I started with the deviled eggs, and while they were already delicious, I couldn’t help but imagine how next-level they’d be with a bit of bacon jam on top. (Secreto, if you’re listening—trust me on this one!)
For the main course, I went all in. The burger was a masterpiece—juicy, loaded with onions and bacon jam, bursting with flavor in every bite. But the real surprise? The Southern Fried Chicken Sandwich. That biscuit-style bun? Genius. The crispy chicken, coleslaw, and pickles? Perfection. I could eat this every day and never get bored.
Then came dessert, and let me just say—I do NOT have a sweet tooth. I usually skip dessert without a second thought. But the carrot cake? Oh. My. God. This wasn’t just dessert; it was a divine experience. Moist, perfectly spiced, with a frosting so smooth it could make angels sing. I swear, it was sent down from heaven itself.
Verdict? I’m coming back. Again and again. If you haven’t been to Secreto yet, do yourself a favor and go. You...
Read moreI dined here this past Saturday (2/19/2022). This place has a lot of potential. I'll start with the pros.
Pros: Our waiter Sebastian was very attentive The atmosphere has great ambience The drinks were good. It's usually very hard for me to find a cocktail I like but Southern Passion was spot on The deviled eggs were light, tasty and refreshing Greens are PERFECT! Three cheese Mac and cheese was ok
Cons: Main entrees were underseasoned.
I ordered the Apple Brined Pork Chop. You expect something that is brined to be full of flavor and that just was not the case here. Not sure if the thickness of the chop prevented the brine from penetrating inside but it was basically bland. When eaten with the puree and cabbage it was better but as big as the chop was there just wasn't enough puree and cabbage to enjoy every bite. It was disappointing as it was cooked perfectly! I had to take it home and doctor it up. The plating was also awkward. I burned myself on the Mac and cheese container cutting my chop. Who thought it was a good idea to sit those on the same plate and then put a napkin under it??
My partner ordered the diver scallops. They too were underseasoned. Tasted better when ate in conjunction with the risotto.
We also ordered dessert to go. I had the cheesecake and my partner had the flour less chocolate torte. Both were terrible. The cake was overcooked and the cheesecake flavor was just bad.
The cornbread is not worth $6. It's pretty dense and dry.
Overall, I maintain that the place has potential. I will return to see if it was just an off night or if the flavors just...
Read moreDelish in a dish! Another great find! We came here via Yelp while on this side of town. We darted in between lunch and dinner and had the place to ourselves! It's almost unseen and not greatly advertised, so its definitely that little gem you're looking for; a hole in the wall upscale escape from ordinary. Had wonderful food and great conversation with the staff. Opened with cocktails, a Black Manhattan and a 18th Amendment. Both just GREAT! The atmosphere is quaint with oldies music, a nice long bar and some patio seating available. The place is small and intimate, and what with the menu being so amazing I would bet it's packed out on weekends and for business lunches! Reservations highly recommended.
We tried the Truffle Deviled Eggs and they were out of this world, flavorful in a rich savory way and were perfectly balanced with a nice smokey sliver of bacon and sprinkled with wonderful little fried capers! I had the shrimp and grits entree which was a great perfect bite with sweet shrimp, yellow grits, tomatoes and lovely crunchy bites of crispy smoky bacon. My date had the Bang Bang Shrimp Po Boy and he devoured every morsel. A sweet sauce with perfectly cooked shrimp and just enough heat in the end to make you sizzle, just a little bit. The addition of the slaw gives the perfect crunch. The best part of our meal however was being treated to an up and coming, not yet on the menu churro with chocolate dipping sauce. OMG. Can you say, "to die for"! Look for it!
All in all a great experience and we are definitely looking forward to coming...
