I can’t say enough about this place! The Altoona Hotel Sicilian Pizza is spot on, and took us back in time to the original. 29th Street’s version has even more cheese and salami, and is definitely worth a try! Also tried a delicious Italian hoagie. The bread was excellent with a great chew, loaded with premium meats and fresh veggies, and the house dressing complimented it perfectly. The best part was the hospitality of the staff! The restaurant was very busy with near constant dine-in and takeout orders, but the owner took time between orders to approach everyone he didn’t already know to make sure their visit was great. We were there near closing time, and a last minute customer walked in with a request. Although out of some ingredients, the owner and staff offered to make special items for them. How awesome is that?!?! An excellent place I will go out of my way to visit again! If you are in Altoona or cruising past on I-99, make it a...

Terrible place refuse to deliver to us. We wanted 3 steak sandwiches and four pizzas plus appetizers. I'm sure well over 70 dollar order. The guy was polite enough to ask his driver while on the phone with my wife allowing her to hear him blatantly turn down buisness. Also hearing him tell the guy it was up to him he only had 4 rolls left anyway. Well sorry sir but you just lost our business for good. Extremely unprofessional and by the way your driver screwed himself out of a nice tip we appreciate the service and pay proper gratuity twenty percent. But this place doesn't deserve your patronage or your hard earn money they don't care about there proffesionalism or they're customers obviously. I've noticed my family our not the only ones to experience these issues. It's sad we really enjoyed the food but this experience has been enough it turned us...

I had heard about Altoona style pizza online from people who had most likely never tried it but spoke negatively of it. I had to try it myself when I was in the area to make my own judgment.

First of all, the crust is basically perfect. It’s crisp and crunchy on the bottom and a bit thick with substance. The flavor is complex and perfectly strong with notes from the ham and a lot added from the sharp cheese. The sauce was not neglected and was also flavorful. The green pepper adds an additional crunch and freshness, and is sliced thinly enough and used sparsely enough that it is not overpowering or offensive as is a risk with green pepper.

The man behind the counter was nice and gave me a good vibe. He seemed to enjoy his work.

The atmosphere was pleasant and charming. Not too loud although the lighting was a bit bright...

The crew at the shop were very nice to my wife and I and made us feel accommodated and appreciated for our travel to their restaurant. It feels like a hidden gem in the heart of Altoona and I liked the Altoona style Sicilian. It is not the greatest pizza but it is very good and different. A pizza critic needs to come check it and have a good time with the local flavor slice. My only regret is not trying one of the hoagies there. Good job guys at 29th St!

If you're considering stopping here, it's probably because of the very non-traditional but very tasty Altoona pizza. But if I'm ever passing through again, it's for the incredible service I received while I was here. Some of the absolute nicest people I've ever met. And while I was devouring what many have called a food crime, the phone was ringing off the hook making to go orders for all sorts of stuff. So they're good for more than just that novelty.
