Never had an issue with this Dairy Queen prior but the holiday may have been part of the problem being short staffed or the knowledge staff not being on shift. Went Labor Day and there was a long line at almost 5. The line was slow. When they took our orders they left the mike in do you could hear everything going on in the background and she must’ve been training someone since it was a holiday/ off day because we heard her asking questions about if the person knew how to make items. We go through the line they give us a receipt before our order and tell us it will be out soon. We ordered 2 small blizzards, 1 medium, and a pup cup it came to $20. When they gave us blizzards they didn’t tip them upside down 1- they were filled to the brim and had caps on them which we didn’t ask for 2 -all three were melted and liquid with just the ingredients all at the bottom. When I pulled the cap off mine it leaked all over since it was filled to the top. I’ve never had a melted blizzard served to me in my life. This was the worst blizzard ever. They should have apologized for serving such poor quality items because they knew they looked nothing like a blizzard and given us a coupon, discount or not charged us. Such a bad experience and ruined the holiday. I would’ve expected better from Dairy Queen **went to get our blizzards from the make it right book 1 of the 3 blizzards was made correctly and they put caps on them without asking, did not tip them upside down, and were filled to them brim. We said this is what happened last time. We asked them to take some out so it wasn’t so full to spill. They did but the ice cream was stilled melted. We asked them why the put caps on it and they answered if there’s 3 or more it’s easier for them. That was never mentioned when we went on the original day or the day we filed a complaint. Don’t go to...
Read moreIt saddened me to write this review for DQ. Its been such a nice establishment for years. We've been in Altoona since 2006. Im not sure what changes they have made or people they have hired. My girls and I are a frequent visitor to this location. We noticed the food and service have deteriorated to the point where I will no longer visit this location. Example ordered two soft served, vanilla and chocolate, when we got home, we received two HARD frozen containers of gunk, it was a workout to just scoop them out with a heavy duty ice cream scooper. I'm not a weakling, I'm a grown man, ex military, hot the gym 5 times a week and can bench 290lbs. Plus the containers were filled only 3/4 of the way. We ended up tossing it in the trash. Such a disappointment for the kiddos.
I also ordered chicken strip basket (see below) with tax it was $8.49. The chicken strip were really tiny (see picture below, I place ketchup packet for comparison), I also got 19 fries, and two pieces of toast. The fries were not bad but toast and chicken strip were subpar. It seems like it's been precooked last year and heated up in the microwave.
People order soft serve for a reason, paid high price for a reason....don't be a lazy clown and give the customer soft serve ice cream. Make fresh food foe the customer. ..live up to your moto , DQ: Grill & Chill. Improve your customer service. You are lucky you are are a franchise of a company owned by one of the richest man in the world. Strive to meet and exceed those expectations. Get rid of your lazy workers and replace with those that are highly motivated and willing to exceed the expectations.
Won't be back here til 2025 or 2026. I highly recommend staying away from this location. Customers..dont accept subpar food and poor...
Read moreIf I had a nickel for each time their chocolate ice cream machine has been down I could afford to buy my own Dairy Queen Franchise and keep the chocolate icecream machine open.
My incredibly pregnant wife has craved one thing, a chocolate cone dipped in chocolate. Too much chocolate? Definitely. Do I tell her that? Absolutely not. I am not exaggerating when I say the past 4 out of 5 times I have made the trek to this establishment, their chocolate ice cream machine has been down. Imagine me, coming home to my dangerously pregnant wife empty handed. I hear you say, "Why not get her a vanilla cone dipped in chocolate" and I am envious of your innocence. A substitution will not suffice. Not when you're 13 months pregnant.
Around the third time I failed in my husbandly duties, I started to call them and see if their machine was working. But the Altoona DQ is far above answering their phones. And I had to roll the dice and lose time and time again.
Lucky for me, my wife's rage is now directed at the DQ itself. Not me, the simple messenger. And I will no longer have...
