Are here today for lunch after dropping off electrical enclosures for the new boot barn. Joe Sr. Wouldn’t be proud of today’s service. Elderly gentleman in front of me ordering asked for info about their food at service counter about the chopped beef potatoe—counter acted like him being there was an inconvenience for holding up the line. Felt bad for the man being treated like that. I forgot my wallet in the truck and counter said I could pay after eating. Beatriz was a great server. The Hispanic back waitress was great too. Food is excellent. What a shame. When I finished my meal, I went to the pay counter to settle up and realized I still needed my wallet. the old white woman at the counter demanded that I leave all my food, drink, and $35 camelback tumbler on the counter until I came back to pay. All of my things were already placed on the counter out of the way because that was already my intention to leave everything there until I paid. This woman acted like I was going to steal my work meal that is covered 100% by Uncle Sam when I have $150,000 worth of available credit in my wallet. What a flipping joke. I come back to pay and the owner Joe is standing behind me at the counter (I guess to make sure I pay?) I tell him that after my meal I’m going to visit my 9 year old nephew’s gravesite in Rosenberg (passed away almost two months ago to the date). I let him know that I would be leaving a 5 star review because of how great the food was. Told him I’d put “food was great, service not so much.” He tells me I don’t have to come back. Here we are, you ask for it and you get it. Every white person in the building looked at me like I was about to rob them blind. The Hispanics were great. If you want bbq south of Houston pass this place up and roll your windows down with two big middle white flags waving.

Update: Joe’s Barbecue called this morning and apologized for the inconvenience last night and said they would talk to their staff about the situation. They also will be sending a gift card because of the problems that we have had with 2 orders now. Just want to give credit to an establishment that will take care of their customers. We have lived in Alvin for over 30 years and have gone to Joe’s all this time and before we moved here, but today I have had enough of their new ways. About a month ago we placed a large order (over $70) and we didn’t get the meat to go with the baked potatoes we ordered. We let that go as a mistake. Today I placed an order and was very plain about not wanting any sauce on the meat. I was told that there would not be that everything would be separate. My husband picked the order up and when we unpacked the order, the meat was drowned in sauce. I called the restaurant and all they said was you should have checked it before you left. I’m like you should have made it correct to start with so that I don’t have to pull everything out of a bag to see what they packed. After talking to who claimed to be a manager he said he couldn’t help me that I would have to talk to someone over him. It’s sad that the people they hire to do a job are unable to get it right. We are long time customers and to be dismissed like we were is a true failure. The picture is of the drowned meat with sauce that I tried to eat, but it tasted bad to me because I don’t like sweet sauce.

I've been wanting to go here for a long time after hearing about it from a few coworkers for over a decade. Unfortunately, it's way off the beaten path for me as I do not have any reason to be on this side of town. Today, I helped my son in law move his parents back into Alvin, and the timing was just right for me to take my son in law to lunch. He had great memories of eating here as a kid and appreciated the flash back Wednesday meal. Everything was almost perfect. (1) I thought the price for 1 meat plate with 2 sides was a bit high at almost $19. I wanted the 2 meat going in, so I figured instantly as I scanned the menu that it would easily go above $25, but to my surprise, it was only $1 more. You would have to be "crazy" to not just get the 2 meat plate or more. So basically, it's just a tad under $20 for 2 meat plates. That's more in line from what I see at most good bbq places. (2) I jokingly said that I ordered an adult drink when they handed me a 2 cup "maybe" size mason jar, even though I knew it was a free refill. This part was made better when our attendant asked what we were drinking and brought us a 1 liter carefe that could easily refill my mason jars 2 times more. This definitely made me laugh afterward after my comments. Anyways, all in all, Alvin is very lucky to have this place. I didn't even mention the interior, which was an added bonus, but you can see my photos. A must-see. A little like the buckhorn saloon in San Antonio.

Customer service just ain't what it used to be...

Decided to pick up some Joes on the way home from work today. My gf called in the order, sliced beef plate and a bbq baked potato with extra sauce on the side. She gets there to pick it up and sees extra sauce on the receipt, meaning they charged us for it. Drives the 20 minutes home, only to realize while taking everything out of the bag that there is no extra sauce. We got one bbq plate and a bbq baked potato, and it was $32 dollars, which is kind of outrageous, but that isn't the point. two meals, one sauce...

I figure I will call and see what happened. The guy who answered the phone, of course, couldn't do anything and got the manager, Caesar on the phone. I tell him that we ordered extra sauce and didn't get any. Instead of doing the manager thing and trying to make it right, the excuses start. First it was, well, since the baked potato has meat, the sauce goes in the meat. Okay, but what about the extra sauce I was charged for? We got two meals and paid $32 dollars and can only get one 4 oz. cup of sauce?? Then he goes on to tell me that he can't refund the money, only the boss can do that, and that I would have to take more time out of my day to call back. He tells me I can make the 20 minute drive back to pick up a 4 oz cup of sauce? Then he tries to make it right by saying, next time you come we can... I told him, this is the first time we've been to Joe's since pre-pandemic, and the chances of us going back are now slim to none. Then he says there is nothing he can do. The manager keeps telling me that usually it says sauce on the receipt when they charge, but I guess he couldn't find the receipt from 30 minutes prior to the call.

So, my gf being awesome, shared her sauce with me and basically ate her sliced beef dry(I know, she's a keeper).

From now on, looks like I'll just drive past Joes and go to Smokin D's or...

Usually I get to go orders from here and don’t usually have that many issues but tonight was a different story. I’m not the type to leave reviews even if they are bad but this one I had too cuz something needs to be done. I came in around 7:45 to pick up my order which yes I am aware they close at 8p so I was trying to hurry so they could close. Everything was fine and while she was bagging everything I kindly asked if she could add salad dressing and tartar sauce she then said I could get at the salad bar. Confused I asked if they were prepackaged and she replied yes so I grabbed my food and went to grab the dressing. I then noticed I order a side salad but wasn’t in there I then asked the employee and said I could get it at the salad bar.. I then told her that there was nothing there and another employee said they put it away and then grabbed it for me. Mind you both times I had to flag her down because she was talking amongst her other young friends that were around her not worrying about anyone else. I double checked to make sure my sauce was there and it wasn’t. Frustrated I slightly raised my voice so she could here me over her loud conversation and asked if I could get my tarter sauce that I asked for. Another girl shouted ‘oh my god’ and she then grabbed my sauce and sarcastically said that the tarter sauce was in the corner at the top acting like I was supposed to see it. Again I understand that it was close to closing time and they were trying to leave but they could at least give me customer service so I can get out quicker but they were too busy chatting it up with each other. This doesn’t make me defer from eating here but just wanted to bring this to...
