If you're in Amarillo and craving authentic Mexican cuisine, Abuelos Mexican Restaurant should be at the top of your list. From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted with a warm atmosphere that perfectly blends traditional Mexican decor with a modern touch. The vibrant colors and inviting ambiance create an enjoyable dining experience for families, couples, and friends alike.
Food: The menu at Abuelos is extensive, offering a wide variety of options that cater to all tastes. Whether you’re in the mood for sizzling fajitas, flavorful enchiladas, or hearty tacos, there’s something for everyone. I opted for the Chicken Enchiladas topped with their signature green sauce, and I was not disappointed. The chicken was tender and well-seasoned, and the sauce added just the right amount of zing.
Appetizers are a must-try here, especially the queso dip which is creamy and rich, perfect for sharing. Their fresh guacamole, made to order, is another highlight that shouldn’t be missed.
Service: The service at Abuelos was commendable. Our server was attentive without being intrusive, providing recommendations and ensuring our drinks were always full. The staff seemed genuinely happy to be there, which made the experience even more enjoyable.
Drinks: The drink menu is impressive, with a variety of margaritas that cater to different preferences. I tried their classic margarita, which was refreshing and well-balanced. They also offer a selection of Mexican beers and non-alcoholic options for those who prefer something lighter.
Overall Experience: Abuelos is more than just a restaurant; it’s a place to enjoy good food and good company. The combination of delicious dishes, friendly service, and a lively atmosphere makes it a great spot for a casual night out or a special celebration. Prices are reasonable for the quality and quantity of food you receive.
If you find yourself in Amarillo, don’t miss the chance to experience the vibrant flavors of Abuelos Mexican Restaurant. I’ll definitely be returning to explore more...
Read moreI went here based on the many reviews that stated this place is great. Sure, the chips and salsa are delicious and the guacamole isn't bad either but these two aspects were not enough to truly enjoy this restaurant when looking for vegan options.
I ordered the vegetarian fajitas and was not pleased with them at all. For one, the beans that come with the fajitas are cooked in lard so we had to substitute them for black beans. The black beans were nothing special (i.e. I could have literally bought a can of black beans, heated them up in the microwave and replicated the same flavors/texture) Next, the vegetables brought out weren't even seasoned at all. I had to douse them in salt and pepper. The majority of the vegetables brought out was onion...mixed with some broccoli, some squash, and some zucchini, some carrots...but basically all onion.
I would recommend switching it up and adding a "meatier" option to the vegetarian fajitas such as mushrooms. Also please season the vegetables 🤦🏻♂️. Maybe even smoke or marinate the vegetables. This was a lousy excuse for fajitas and I know so much more can be done to vegetables, it really felt like you all weren't trying at all.
Anyway, this was just a stop on my road trip to spend the night before driving more but I really wouldn't recommend this restaurant to any vegans (and to the vegetarians, I wouldn't even recommend y'all get the vegetarian fajitas, it's a waste).
The service was great though and I really appreciate the restaurant trying to accomodate me. However y'all need to get it...
Read moreI am sorry I tried this place. Even sorrier that I had brought my sister and her family as well. The hostess was very friendly and our waitress was kind and did great as our server. It was the manager that ruined the experience. When I got in, the hostess told me to maybe wait few minutes so she can see where we'll sit as a group. A man suddenly joined in the host desk, didn't acknowledged me, but scolded the hostess and told her pretty much that she couldn't seat us. He was angry, so I felt scared, like I did something wrong by being there. Another hostess came along and said they'll check but maybe there will 20-30mins wait. I said ok. The man had a nasty look on his face so my husband asked what was wrong, can he seat us in 2 tables instead of one. The man said no there are no servers at those tables. My husband asked can't they walk from one next to another table? The man didn't verbally respond, but he hit his fist on the host desk, scared me and our kids. Didn't know what was going on. The hostesses apologized when he left mumbling 'do what you want" to the other hostess. I asked the hostesses who the man was, they said he was the manager. The treatment from the manager was not worth the amount of money we paid. We all felt awkward after the meal. We won't go there again. I don't recommend it for big parties, or small. Not...
