But just as important as the food was the service. My first experience was less than spectacular because of an inattentive waitress. This time, our server was outstanding. He did not dote over us and did not give us special attention. Throughout the evening, I saw him and the rest of the staff treat every table with a friendly yet professional demeanor. It is a true pleasure to see a well trained staff working well with one another and taking joy in their service.
In the end, our dinner was a little over an hour. I appreciate the owner reaching out and asking us to try Metropolitan again. It was well worth it. I am proud to give them 5 stars!! My wife is already making plans to treat my father-in-law during his next visit. Thank you Ms. Sellers for a wonderful evening! (Previous review) It appears to be a great place--but only if you are personally acquainted with your server or the owners. Unfortunately, we didn't have the right connections. Instead, we were treated like an unwanted guest at a dinner party -- relegated to an out-of-the-way table (with uncomfortable chairs) near the kitchen and mostly forgotten. Server wasn't fully familiar with the menu and keep forgetting items. Seems like she finally gave up on us and spent the rest of the evening gabbing and hugging the guests at other tables (must have been family and friends from the looks of it). Although the food was a bit above average, it just took too long to arrive --- apparently the server entered our appetizer order but not the entree order. So after finishing our appetizer, the meal didn't arrive for almost a full hour after - - and that was after we had to grab another server to check for our meal in the kitchen; our server was too busy with other tables. In the end, we spent almost 2 hours at a place we didn't feel welcome. And to top off the entire experience, I had chosen the restaurant because I wanted to pamper my wife on her birthday. Instead, I had to keep apologizing to her for ruining her birthday. Instead of her feeling special, she felt like an inconvenience to the staff. I wanted to like the place so much, but regretted my decision. Next year, I hope I can find a better restaurant to celebrate my...
Read moreI was really excited to try something new with my husband and loved the idea of the theme but was really let down by our experience Friday night . I love being able to have a reason to dress nice and have good drinks and even had to make sure my husband didn’t wear his hat since there were house rules(which I loved!). When we got there I had made a reservation and were seated immediately but were sat in the very back of the restaurant right next to the door to the kitchen. I could barely move my arms because the were constant employees going by and everytime the waitress checked on us she was constantly having to get out of the way of another employee. I thought the inside looked awesome and enjoyed the vibe but I only experienced that walking to our table since where we were sitting we had no view of anything at all. I wanted to enjoy the live music but was on the other side of a curtain and the music was muddled by a group of loud drunk men at the bar (which is not like someone you would have at your mothers on a Sunday like stated in the house rules) and the employees saying “coming in” every other minute they were walking into the kitchen which at times were screamed behind us. And if you are going to go with a strict theme then I think you should stick to it. Like I said i forced my husband not to wear a hat because it was specific on the dress code but more than half the male employees would come out the kitchen wearing shorts and backward hats and the were out on the floor ALOT. The one view that my husband had was of the back of the huge chairs and the tv on the back wall, which they were playing black and white Frankenstein which was actually pretty cool and went with the whole theme but the drunk male crew that I spoke of before had them change it to the baseball game that played in black in white on the tv that I could see which was above the bar! Extremely ruining the atmosphere. I went here to have a romantic fancy night out with my husband. If I wanted to go sit in a back of a bar and watch a baseball game I would of gone somewhere else! Needless to say we had one drink and left. The only reason I gave it 2 stars was because the drinks were actually very very good and the inside of restaurant was beautiful(from what I saw). I just think they can afford to lose those two tables where we were sitting, with our table right by the kitchen and the other table right next to the unisex bathroom that constantly has someone waiting in line right behind you. We would like to give it another chance but it won’t be anytime soon....and after our whole experience it really pissed me off when we left and there were SEVERAL tables open near the band. I mean hell we would of even been happy with the bar. Maybe if I would of just walked in and said we didn’t have a reservation we would of had a better experience but what was I thinking planning ahead. Maybe set the same standards for your employees that you expect from...
Read moreThe kitchen really let down the service. We called ahead to let the restaurant know we would be about 15 minutes late to our reservation because my flight into Amarillo was delayed. When we arrived at the restaurant, we were greeted by the Manager, where we apologized for being late. He cut us off and said "Yes, I know all about it". Okay.... weird. We were sat at the big striped chairs in the back. The ambiance is great. Looks like a great place for cocktails and horderves... however the Appetizers on the menu are glorified bar food... not many choices, and not really catered for cocktails. We ordered the cheese board with charcuterie - the plate was overwhelming, with tiny cheese cubes which look like they were purchased from Sam's Club, rotted strawberries, crackers that were store bought, and a massive amount of hot peppers, martini olives and pickles. We didn't even get an introduction as to what was on the board, and just had to figure it out. The Caesar salads were great - nice and cold, not overly dressed, and seasoned well. When it came to our meals, the duck was fantastic! Perfectly seasoned with a paired sauce. Great Stuff. When it came to my steak however, I asked for it to be prepared Medium Rare. I had to send the steak back twice - and it still wasn't cooked properly (I have included photos for each time I received it back from the kitchen) but at least it was edible. Upon each time I got the steak back - returned by the manager twice - he didn't really say much of anything and he kind of hovered which felt a little weird. I wasn't expecting any type of cut on the bill, but it would have been nice to be offered something - at least a free desert or maybe comped cocktail for the fact I couldn't even eat my steak, and by the third time - I gave up on the kitchen and just filled up on everything else to eat. Mashed potatoes were delicious though. Our waiter was great - attentive, and very nice. And again, the place is cute. I can see they are still trying to find out what they are good at... but to claim you are a fine dining restaurant - definitely needs to step up their kitchen game. The appetizer menu needs to have better options - I felt like I could get everything at TGI Fridays. To not be able to prepare a steak properly when that is the one dish you will sell more than anything on the menu - that's a problem. Overall - $200 for a meal and 4 cocktails, definitely...
