Black Dog Wood Fired — Restaurant in Ambridge

Finally, high-quality delicious pizza in Ambridge! This place is going to become a habit I think. I did not grow up in Ambridge, I moved here as an adult, and have never been excited about the "famous" pizza options here (I'm sure if I grew up here I'd feel differently). Black Dog fills a gap in our restaurant options so so nicely. I ordered online and picked up - so no experience dining in, although the dining room was open, attractive, and modern - yet cozy somehow. Looking forward to dining in some day. Folks working there were super friendly! And the pizza absolutely killed. Perfect Neapolitan style, delicious chewy crust with a good char. Simple tomato sauce with a slight sweetness. And an appropriate (not Pittsburgh-style overwhelming) amount of quality cheese. Higher price point than some will be used to, but you are paying for quality.

Our first time. We had planned to eat in the restaurant. However the only seats available were drenched in sunlight on a hot July day. I'm not sure why they haven't added blinds or reorganized the tables so they can all be used during sunny summer days. We ordered a Margarita and a meat lovers pizza. Then we waited for the pizzas to go. During that time we watched what you would describe as less than a well oiled machine. The pizzas themselves were good thin crispy crust but not great. Visited for the first time this last week and was not disappointed. Atmosphere was light and airy, service was quick and kind, and the pizza: 10/10… I was a little weary about another pizza joint opening in the area, but this is unlike the otherwise, true wood fired pizza similar to one of my other fave spots in Lawrencville, though half the cost and arguably the same quality, if not better ingredients. Will def be making this a regular spot as it’s also within walking distance from our house.
