Police Station Pizza-aka: Pizza House, is local-gem type establishment in Ambridge, known for selling slices of Sicilian Pizza.
On a weekend, you had better get there early bc they only make so much dough, and once they run out, they close for the night. When I was there last time on a Saturday, they started turning away new orders around 7:15pm.
The prices are very reasonable and I am posting the current menu as of 9-18-2022.
The pizza has a nostalgic taste, an old school homey type feel to it. It’s definitely good stuff.
The cheese is mozzarella, which they bake some on and sprinkle some uncooked on top.
The sauce is slightly tart, but perfectly seasoned, and reminds me of a San Marzano/Jersey Mikes sauce type feel. It’s far better than said canned sauce however.
The dough is slightly crispy on the bottom and crust, yet light and fluffy on the inside. Very well done and easy to bite in to. Not oily or buttery at all.
They are generous with the toppings. The pepperoni and sausage was a good choice. The mushrooms, although canned, are of good quality, and I would get them again.
There is a great sauce/cheese/dough ratio. If you feel it’s overly cheesy, you can easily take the cold cheese off.
If you’re in the area, and looking for very reasonably priced, good Sicilian pizza...... I’d highly recommend you find time to stop here. This is hands down better than many of the hipster joints popping up in the Pittsburgh area selling Detroit or...
Read moreThis is a local favorite and they have a totally unique approach. Unless you are getting a tray or an unbaked there is no time advantage gained by calling ahead. All pizzas are rectanglar trays. The slices are square. This is known as police station pizza as it is located next to the old Ambridge police station. Police Station pizza is take out and cash only. There is no off street parking, seating or menu. The toppings are all placed on the pizza after the base assembly is cooked. Topping options include sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms, anchovies and unmelted cheese. When you arrive the "order taker" will make eye contact and ask how many slices you want, he doesn't need to know how you want them topped. Then the "cashier" will ask how many slices and their toppings and will mentally calculate your bill and collects payment. When the tray the "order taker" designates as yours comes out of the oven the "assembler" will ask you how you want your slices topped and then build them. Each step in their process is managed verbally. They are generally pretty quick but can be very busy on Saturday between 5p and 6p. Their dough is homemade and pre-baked prior to business hours, so when they run out they are done for the evening. It is fun to observe their process while you wait for your pizza. I'm not a local and enjoy their unique...
Read moreThe pizza was OK. Good crust, just the right blend of crispy & chewy. We asked for extra cheese, and got plenty of it. Unfortunately, it was cold, unmelted, and simply sprinkled over the pizza AFTER it came out of the oven! The sauce was barely discernible to our taste buds. Same for the pepperoni. But the absolute deciding factor as to why we will never be returning to The Pizza House (Police Station Pizza), is the poor attitude and questionable customer service. We called our order in and from the initial phone call, the attitude of the workers was rude & arrogant. Then, when we arrived in the prescribed time, we waited an additional 15 minutes beyond what they told us, they were again, rude, when asked if they accepted credit cards. The pizza was OK. The people sucked. We will be looking elsewhere for pizza in our...
