I just lost my mom suddenly a week ago. Every time my mom and dad would go to Ames they would choose to eat at your restaurant. A couple days after my mom passed my dad mentioned that the only thing that sounded good to him was the engineer from fire house subs. So today I decided to drive an hour away to Ames to get him his favorite sub that he would eat with my mom every time they went to an Ames. I went through the drive-through and explained to them my situation. that my mom had passed, and my dad really wanted firehouse subs so I traveled an hour away to get him the one thing that sounded good to eat since my mom had passed. I asked them if they could please double wrap it so it would stay as warm as possible since I was traveling a distance, the girl said no problem she would double wrap it in foil. well, not only did they not double wrap it in foil they didn’t even wrap it in foil one time. I don’t usually do this stuff, but in my eyes shame on you. I am so very disappointed. To you this may not have been a big deal but to me it would’ve meant everything. I truly don’t think I was asking too much, but...
Read moreOur company ordered 27 sandwiches for a company lunch. We placed the order online the day prior around 3 pm and my card was charged. We wanted the sandwiches for pick up at 11:15 am. We called around 10 am yesterday to make sure our order was going to be on time, so we could adjust our schedule slightly if needed. We were then informed that they would not be able to make our order at all, even though they had plenty of notice and our contact information the day before. They were not even going to call us to let us know they couldn't fulfill our order due to short staffing. We understand the short staffing issue as our company experiences it ourselves, but beyond poor customer service as you weren't even going to let us know our order was cancelled. We were met with excuse after excuse - their system, short staffing, etc. Person on the phone was curt and rude. Also, we were told we were speaking to the manager yesterday. Called back today to make sure we were going to get fully refunded, talking to a different person that also said they were the manager. Will not be ordering ever again due to poor...
Read moreFirehouse Subs in Ames is… an experience you kind of just end up thinking about later, even if you're not sure why. You walk in and there's this quiet bustle. Not hectic, not slow. Just people doing what they do. The smell hits you right away. It’s warm, savory, a little smoky maybe, but not in a way that gives anything away.
The menu’s there, big and red, and it’s full of choices that all seem like they could be exactly what you're in the mood for. Or maybe not. You make a decision, or something close to it, and then you wait, just long enough to notice the walls. There’s a theme, but also a feeling that it goes deeper than theme. Like it means something to someone.
When your name gets called, you kind of just know. You unwrap what you ordered or open the box, depending, and it’s all very much what it is. Layers. Something warm. Something toasted. Maybe crunchy. Maybe soft. It's hard to say.
People come and go. Some look satisfied, some thoughtful. You leave too, eventually. And later, maybe the next day, you’ll think about it again, without really...
