Thanks Brandon.
The whole experience was on the verge of disaster until this guy took the time to acknowledge me. They definitely earned a repeat patron.
This is going to be a negative 5 star review. Didn’t have the heart to ‘Neg em after speaking with Brandon. I’m going to keep it constructive.
When no one is responsible, no one can be held accountable. I say this because “waiting” the tables is a group effort here. This allows some of the staff to coast leaving the “try hards” to pull the cart. To gain refills or service, you need to “flag” down someone in a Karl Strauss Shirt. I’ve never had so many people duck my eye contact outside of middle school dances. Eventually the “Try Hards” will burn out and find a more rewarding experience else where leaving the loafers destroying the service in their wake.
Tipping before you ever experience the service of the staff is absurd, I tipped 20% because well it’s customary and I realize it’s important. Outside of Brandon, I would have lowered that significantly due to the level of service we received varied DRASTICALLY from person to person. Brandon? 30% the random dudes who ducked every single eye contact even going as far as to completely ignore me as I talked directly at them while they walked by- probably busy. No idea.
We had to create several orders - which is inconvenient but overlook-able.
Every server that took the time was fantastic, the several members of the team who would rather loafer around chatting could be unscheduled tomorrow and I promise not a single patron would know the difference - only the person pressing go on the ADP “Run Payroll” Button.
Either way food was fantastic, service once I was aware of the situation was manageable. ( You definitely have to “pick one” and let the loafers coast through their shifts)
Excellent food and drink highly recommend. Also should be noted if your here with your buddies I don’t believe you will experience this as each buddy will have their own ordering experience and beverage delivered promptly. What runs astray is treating this place like your traditional...
Read moreBeen to this particular location twice now and it hasn't disappointed. The staple beers (Tower 10 IPA, Red Trolley, Big Barrel IIPA) are brewed really well with great balance and flavor. If that's not enough there are the seasonal brews, holiday series brews, barrel aged brews, colabo brews and finally the small batch brews. This place is a big time brewery that still pumps out small craft brews without fail.
As a matter of fact, they pump out great food as well. Only thing that I've had here that I didn't much like was the quesadilla. (it looked like they were just undercooked pieces of tortilla chips) Other than that all the other food was scumptious! It also seems to be case across the board at the South Coast location. But sorry South Coast, this one takes the cake.
Inside the restaurant are tables, booths and high chairs galore. There is even a good sized patio lined along Orangewood ave where you can hear the Angels fans screaming from the stadium across the street.
Come by this place, you won't be disappointed. If you don't like waiting 30-45 min to eat, I suggest you come when they're not as busy. Say, 11am, 3-5pm and 90 minutes before closing. If you're okay with waiting, then go get some...
Read moreThis was my first visit to Karl Strauss Brewery in Anaheim and it was very enjoyable. I found it to be very clean with a nice modern design. There are more than 20 handles available, so there is a beer for everyone on tap. If you are not sure what to order, ask the bartender for a taste. They are very knowledgeable about the brews and are happy to help you make the right choice. If you have any questions about anything, just ask, everyone is friendly here. My personal choice for beer was the Red Trolley Irish Ale. Similar to Modello Negra, with better flavor. I can definitely recommend it and will enjoy a glass again next time. This brewery is located on Orangewood across from the Big A and the cross street is Rampart. The parking lot is large and access is easy from the Orangewood entrance. I did not sample the food on this visit, but next time I will be having lunch, and I expect the food to be every bit as good as the beer. Thank you Kylie for the warm welcome and for all your help in making the right choice. I had several questions and, like a good bartender should, she had all the answers. This is a nice place and I will be looking forward to my next visit. Many thanks Kylie, hope to see you...
