I've been boycotting dining at Ma's Islamic Chinese restaurant for about 5-6 years now simply for the fact that the last time I was here the experience was, let's just say, not up to par. Either they've changed the staff and management or there was a major overhaul of the service training. Ma's staff was most definite more attentive this time around. I would say 3/5, but considered to the previous time, it's a would of difference. So, quick backstory. My out of town friends wanted to go here. They knew i didn't want to come, but they basically kidnapped me to go eat dinner with them. And that's how the review came about. We ordered about 11 dishes all good. Just disappointed in a specific order for myself. When i go to Nomads Asian Bistro ( my favorite Chinese restaurant in Long Beach), i have to order the Basil eggplant. I have to say it's one of my favorite dishes. Unfortunately here at Ma's, it was a letdown because it tasted bland. However, i do understand every restaurant had their own style and the eggplant better just wasn't jiving with me. All in all, service was decent, food is above par and sizable portions. There is plenty of parking when they're not busy, and it is family and stroller friendly. I'm praying the decent service thing wasn't a fluke so i might have to try it again to really find out. Happy eating!

I have been to this place many times, this time I went after few years, it wasn't a weekend but they were very busy, we waited for 40 minutes to get the table, which is okay, we order Chicken Fried Rice, Orange Chicken and Mongolian Beef, the service wa bad, first they brought soup, then Orange Chicken, now we were waiting for our Rice, by the time Rice came or Chicken got cold, we finished the Orange Chicken and they did not brought the Mongolian Beef, I have to go and ask them that where is our order of Mongolian Beef, the lady said, let me check and then a server brought us the order of Mongolian Beef, I don't have to tell you that by now we our appetite was gone and Rice got cold and the Mangold Beef dosen't taste great, I always order Mongolian Beef here, but this time it wasn't the same rate, I think since the original owner sold this business the Chef and the recipe is changed, there food is not good anymore. I don't think that I will be going there again.

We arrive at doors opening 5pm Saturday night. We where quickly seated. The smell of garlic and chilis in the air as we walk to our table and grab out seats. Our waitress was friendly, attentive and courteous. Food at Ma's always fresh and tasty. Portions are family size and good for sharing. We started with the Egg Rolls and Three Flavors Wonton Soup. Egg Rolls super crispy and tightly roll right out the fryer. Wonton soup had generous amount of thin slice beef, chicken and shrimps. Hearty Soup was earthy and season right. Bamboo shoots, carrots, peas and wontons where tender. Main course, Broccoli Beef, Orange Chicken, Lamb with Green Onions. Beef was tender and sweet. Chicken crispy, sweet and right amount of heat. Lamb was marinade right, chewy, right amount garlic. We had the house hot tea to wash down our food. The bad. Green floor carpets and the walls look worn down/dirty. We should have taken our food To- Go.

Extremely Disappointing – Never Felt So Unwelcome at a Halal Restaurant

I usually go to Ma’s Kitchen in Laguna and have always had a great experience there, so my uncle and I decided to try Ma’s House for a change. We checked online beforehand—Google, Yelp, and other listings all said they close at 9:30 PM on Saturdays. We arrived at 8:40 PM, fully expecting to be able to dine in since the kitchen typically closes about 30 minutes before closing time.

But the moment we stepped in, we were met with an unexpected and very cold welcome. Instead of greeting us, a woman from across the restaurant shouted that they were closed, without any explanation. We were confused and asked politely if we could order just one dish, since we had driven 40 minutes to get there. She said dining closes at 8:30, and only takeout was available—something that is not stated anywhere online.

We told her we preferred to eat fresh food at the restaurant and would order immediately and leave quickly, by 9:15 or 9:20. Still, she refused and was extremely rude and dismissive in tone. It didn’t feel like we were being turned away due to a policy—it felt personal and unkind.

I’ve eaten at many Muslim Halal restaurants over the years and have always felt welcomed and respected—until today. The way we were treated made us feel like we were being kicked out before we even had a chance to sit down. The energy was negative, the staff showed no hospitality, and we left feeling deeply disappointed and uncomfortable.

Sadly, no matter how good the food might be, bad energy and poor customer service ruin the entire experience. We won’t be coming back to...

Service is AWFUL!!!! Their other two locations provided better services than this one. Once seated we had to wait for about 39 minutes till we dragged someone to our table to take our orders. Once that was completed, we had to wait another 30 minutes till food was brought to our table. And that was the last time we saw them for about 45 minutes until we stood up and yelled to draw their attention to get some water brought to our table. And since no one came to our table we got tired of waiting and went to the cash register to pay and leave. Believe it or not, we could simply walk out without paying my check $249 as no one came to attend us there as we waited for another 30 minutes. This service was so bad that I was tempted to leave but it's against my principal so I waited. A restaurant should not be like this. I admit they were busy, but then, they should hire more people. I saw a lady waiting to pick up her food for 30 minutes as long as I stood there to pay my check. That was the service... Now, the food was neither bad nor something extraordinary. Sometimes we all go back to a restaurant for the food even if the service is bad. But here, since the food is nothing special and service is bad, real real bad, I am positively not going to waste my money...
