I have Celiac and DH, skin Celiac, so I'm extremely careful when it comes to eating out. I'm also from AZ but in Cali for the summer and trying to enjoy as much fresh fish and seafood as possible. I had a GF spicy yellowtail at a cute place near Huntington beach but found this place on Google maps and saw they clearly state what they have that is GF. We ate there as soon as they opened yesterday, May 30, 2024 and my first thoughts were the location was awesome. It's directly across from the parking garage that has first two hours free on the ground level and the little district it's in is very clean and new looking. The restaurant appears family owned and operated because they had their kids in there and looked like the only other patrons that were before us may have been friends or family. There were a few people who popped in for to-go orders while we were eating, also. We ordered the spicy garlic edamame, yellowtail nigiri, and they gave us miso soup to try. I then got the tsunami roll, which I devoured before I remembered to take a photo so you see I only had a couple pieces left and I also got the Kamikaze roll. The edamame was amazing!! That chili sauce they put on top was the greatest thing to ever happen to edamame. The tsunami roll was SO good. The flavor was light but very good. The Kamikaze roll was okay. The spice was excellent on it but I could have done without the crispy onion on it. I think it just adds a texture I didn't enjoy with it but the eel sauce, and the fact I could eat the eel sauce was wonderful. I was genuinely shocked that place wasn't completely packed at any point we were there. They open at 5pm and close by midnight but everything was so clean and absolutely nothing had that fishy taste you fear when eating sushi. I also love that you can order at the counter or scan the QR code at the table and place your order as one or as individuals right on your phone and keep your tab open or close it right away. We will definitely be eating there several more times before we leave Cali and I am saying this has THE BEST sushi I've ever had. I've read so many reviews that said that but this place is the only one with a full gluten free menu that has just as many options as the gluten...
Read moreI got the lunch special and at first, I thought the portion would not get me full, but it was a good portion! Both of these rolls were $11, which is pretty affordable for sushi in Anaheim. I like the presentation, but I wish the garnish wasn’t a disposable plastic grass. I honestly don’t remember what these rolls were called, but I liked the roll in the back (see picture). The fish was fresh, and the cuts were nice and clean. There was a bit too much garlic, in my opinion, but overall it added a nice crunch to the dish. The spicy tuna roll (front) was also nice. It’s your standard roll, which definitely has the components just right.
The service was also good. I didn’t wait more than 10 minutes to retrieve the food, and the cashier was nice and friendly. You cannot dine in the restaurant, as city policy requires food to be ordered to-go, which I didn’t...
Read moreTL;DR overpriced, worst quality, and blatantly dishonest.
Having lived here for a year, I’ve given up on this place. I’ve had fresher grocery store sushi. God forbid you order from the gluten free section, because be prepared for “GF Roll- $13” to cost $17, and it’s still not safe for celiacs (they don’t bother to try, just recommended for those with dietary preference). They charge more for ”GF” rolls, then add more $$$ when you order; there is no option to just order, the more expensive, gluten free roll.
I never order salmon or albacore because the quality is okay for cooking, but definitely not sushi grade. This place tries to say “they say” they’re the the best, but imaginary friends don’t count.
There is a better place one block south, but the poke bowl place is my recommendation. If you are looking for cheaper, the grocery...
