From the time we arrived, the experience was flawless. Prompt, friendly, knowledgeable, with a Peruvian staff to help honestly navigate through what was authentic Peruvian food (for people like me) versus the stuff on there to pacify picky eaters (like my kids). 😂🤷♂️
We started off with the truffle fries and anticuchos (no pics) and everyone at the table was satisfied.
My pesketarian daughter had the shrimp scampi and it was unlike any scampi I've ever had. If that's Peruvian scampi, count me IN. Unique flavor, perfectly cooked pasta, and I can't vouch for the shrimp bc she didn't give me one.
My other daughter had the fish and chips and the breading on the fish was light, flaky, and again, truly unique. An abundance of food with both regular fries and sweet potato fries, both of which were fantastic.
My son got the burger, medium rare, and he said it was the juicest burger he's ever had.
My wife got the ceviche as a main course (more than enough) and while she didn't realize ceviche was served cold, she was pleasantly surprised. I helped her finish it off and it was amazing. Spicy, tangy, fresh cuts of fish with perfect texture, and yet another unique treat.
I got the Aji de Galina and the yellow pepper sauce hit the spot. Creamy but not greasy, spicy but not hot, chicken that melted in my mouth, with perfectly cooked rice and potatoes on the side.
They were slammed busy (even with the ridiculous and ineffective Covid restrictions implemented by the NM governor), but were always able to stay on top of things with our table.
If we ever come back to Angel Fire, this is a must. Even if we don't, I'd encourage anyone in the area to come enjoy their hospitality and...
Read moreSo this place has a very limited time they are open. At opening (4pm) I began to call. Every time the call went straight to voicemail with the statement that the voicemail box was full. I tried for almost an hour with the same result. So we chanced it. Headed to the restaurant to get a table. When we walked in, over half the place was empty. The hostess asked if we had a reservation. I informed her of what I had tried and the result. She stated there was no room and to try back in an hour. She was very short and rude with her tone and body language. So I asked to verify the phone number because maybe something was wrong online. The hostess and the three other employees she asked did not know the number. She restated to maybe try back in an hour with a questioning tone and a shrug of her shoulders. When I asked if she could give a better idea of time, she stated she could not.
It’s a busy weekend at the typing of this post, I get the need for a reservation. This is why I tried contacting them for about an hour. My issue is the unprofessional nature of the employees and their inability to provide anything beyond a shoulder shrug and saying “maybe try back in an hour?”
Offer to make a reservation for tomorrow night. If everything is done by reservation, why not offer to make one for an hour or two? Why tell me to try back in an hour if you can reserve a spot for an hour out. Offer some sort of a solution. At least be able to verify the phone number of your...
Read moreA completely unexpected, delightful experience. Mikuna Grill is a must if you are going to Angel Fire. As other reviewers have said, most places in town have chicken fried...everything. Mikuna’s has some of that too but I have no intention of trying it. For the more adventurous there are several traditional Peruvian dishes and a couple of New Mexican staples as well. They were out of some of the traditional Peruvian soups as they import their spices from Peru and had run out. So my wife and I each had the chili rellenos and split the yucca fries. Fantastico!! My wife has a soy intolerance and Emily was kind enough to make a dipping sauce from scratch she could eat. They only use canola and olive oils, and butter for cooking—no vegetable oil/hydrogenated nonsense. The rellenos were superb, some of the best I’ve ever had. They were lightly breaded (i.e. not eggy) and the chilis tasted like they had been roasted. As Arizonans we like hot spicy food and the fantastic red and green chili sauces that came with the rellenos were about an 8/10 on the hot scale—just the perfect amount of heat. So if you like heat and flavor, check this place out! They now have their liquor license so the experience is complete. We’ll be back😎.
Update—came back and had the Aji de Gallena. Wonderful! Order it spicy. You know...
