A Main Street gem, a door that jingles into a room filled with chatter and patrons who came for the experience, knowing their visit is more than filling their bellies and continuing to race through the day. Slow down and relish the clanking of silverware, the eaters' clear intentions to socialize and hoping for a laugh or just an old fashioned face to face conversation, over flowers, a positive air rests here. But it's looking through the beckoning glass display case, inviting and lovely, showcasing the desserts. Yes!!! I want to yell an exuberant yes! Cheering myself on for ordering such an indulgent dessert. Yeah! Each dessert its own specie, my daughter can hardly stand to choose one and can't read most of the labels anyways, picks the one with fragile gold leaf because of the pure mystery of its insides, she loves the surprises inside. I guess that's the beauty of not caring what the label says. My son on the other hand, this rare opportunity of eating a bakery item outside of our home kitchen- is an event. He has celiac disease and this is the one place I know that he can go in and drool over desserts and he knows there is one he can have. For an 8 year old kid who has to walk by every grocery bakery and every hostess stand. . . this is big, you should see him smile. The dessert could be $20 and I would buy it to see him lock this place into his favorite spots list. I don't break the bank here though at all, and the breakfasts and soups that are provided give me another darn good excuse to come back, besides my children begging. Even the eldest child at 13, a teenager! enjoys sweets and it's something to do before she is more and more uninterested in Hanging out with me she will still love it here. Perfect place to bring the kids. We like to sit outside on the sidewalk and spot old classic cars. My children's teeth fill up with chocolate and it looks gross and they laugh and show me their dirty teeth, I know they will remember these special desserts. This isn't just a place it is an instant fond memory. Thank you for being a gluten friendly restaurant, you help our family dine together. I can only bake so much at home:) and yours are far...
Read moreBeautiful pastries in their display. I could tell they put a lot of hard work into their food. I was particularly excited to try the raspberry muffin, which turned out to be delicious.
However, our experience was overshadowed by poor service. My partner and I felt unwelcome during our visit; staff kept looking at us as if upset. It was 3:52 on a Saturday afternoon, just 8 minutes before closing time. Since it was my first time as a customer, I wasn’t aware that they were closing. I was in the area shopping for antiques. It wasn’t until after I left that I realized why the cashier was behaving this way. I got a mocha, and my partner got an iced coffee. It seemed as if the staff didn’t want to make our drinks, and the lady taking our order even appeared annoyed by our presence or us ordering.
They were verbally open about not wanting to help. We could hear the cashier talk to the other staff about it as we waited for our drinks. “You are a lot more nicer than I am”, “wouldn’t have done it”.
I felt uncomfortable being there by this point. They made it very clear they were closing and wanting us out when the lady handing our drinks jumped to the opportunity to place the chair upside down on top of the table as soon as I got up. There were other people still in the café sitting and enjoying their experience. Service and food didn’t match, which is what makes it sad. I would have loved to come back and try other things; the pastry was the only good thing that came out of this experience. I didn’t like my coffee or the service we received.
As for atmosphere it was...
Read moreI decided to randomly venture into Truffles & Tortes in downtown Anoka. I had heard reviews before that it is good but over priced. Well, I went in after viewing the menu online for cakes. I really wanted to try the Strawberry Chantilly. I went in and asked about the cakes. They had one available (6” round) which was coincidently the size I was looking for. I promptly purchased it. Came out to roughly 22$. So, yeah, it is pretty expensive for a small cake. But, I can’t just judge it off the cost! When I got home, I ate my lunch and then decided to try the cake. When I opened the box, I was in awe over the cute delicate cake in the box. It is white cream over white cake. There were strawberries arranged on little cream swirls in a circle along the border of the cake. It was super pretty. I was loathe to cut into it. But I did :) After plating the slice of cake, I reboxed the remainder and refrigerated it. I sat down and savored the delicious and creamy concoction. I mean creamy. This cake was like a cream and fluffy cloud in my mouth. It was amazing. I’m tempted to eat more but realize that would be dangerous since I don’t think I could stop if I let myself have more.
In conclusion, the cake was delicious and I feel it was worth the money. I’d definitely recommend trying it and I will be going back to try another treat...
