My wife and I had lunch here today. We were their only customers from 11:40Am to 12:40PM. Service was slow. The waitress was hard to understand at times. She had a heavy accent and talked fast. We ordered "medium" margaritas. They were just an average-sized drink and they were all ice. The mix they used was very sweet and there was very little alcohol in the drinks. Later, my wife wanted something else to drink. The waitress said they had a Pinot Grigio which turned out to be an unopened $10 screw top bottle of Sterling that was bad. I mean, really bad. She acted like she did not believe me and I suggested she taste it. They had no other wines! My wife settled for another margarita. The guacamole had a strange ingredient in it. I think it was ascorbic acid. It might have been vinegar. It was not lime or lemon. It made the guacamole much too tart and acidic. It was also too salty. The black beans were inedible because they were so salty. My chile relleno was greasy and it never got hot enough in the middle to melt the cheese at all. The same for everything else. It was lukewarm, greasy and some food was over-salted. The salsas were strange. One seemed to have cream in it. Another salsa was pretty hot but the flavor was poor. The barely warm rice had hard kernels of old rice mixed in with reasonably tender rice (bland, plain rice with red color but no flavor). I found a hard kernel of rice in with my chile relleno. We had guacamole, a Tuesday "taco special" of greasy, bland ground beef, and a chile relleno plate. The bill was $90 something. They charged us $7 for the bad wine! They charged us a 15% "service charge". I saw nothing anywhere that said they were going to charge us a service charge AND they still listed suggested tip amounts on our bill... The waitress had to get help from the other woman there to be able to process our credit card. This took a while. Another revue mentioned the same issue. I gave her a $10 tip (because of the 15% service charge) and the total bill was over $110! From somewhere in the bar area they had sounds from two different sources, that made for annoying racket. The waitress made no effort to clear the table at any time and she kept giving me my wife's drinks. She asked if everything was okay about when we were finished. Again, we were the only customers! Just totally disappointed in the meal and service.

We visited Taco Central for dinner last night, one of the newer spots that’s opened up in downtown Ansonia. I really liked the vibe when I walked in - the string lights on the ceiling, as well as the wooden tables and walls, gave it a southwestern vibe. We had a nice waitress who told us some of her menu recommendations and what was popular. I thought it was cool that the restaurant offered a variety of Latin dishes and not just Mexican food! Some of the dishes I saw on the menu are rare to find in The Valley. The food itself was a bit lacking in flavor - very mild salsa; the tacos al pastor mentioned that it was marinated in chilies and spices, and though the meat was tender, I didn’t quite get the flavor profile I was expecting. It also mentioned that pineapple would be mixed in, but I only found small pieces and could barely taste it. The Central Sampler was a great way to get a little bit of everything for an appetizer, but unfortunately the guacamole was noticeably old, as it was starting to brown and didn’t taste the freshest. With a little improvement on flavors and freshness, I think Taco Central could be really great!

Brand new, just opened in the summer of 2021. Interior is nicely decorated and easy street parking. Big deal for me, chips and Salsa are included. The salsa was a bit different, not like a pure tomato based salsa, but it was very good. Only down side to the salsa, it's mild, no heat or kick at all. We ordered tacos, the wife got the pastor tacos and me the chicken with a side salad. The tacos were fantastic, served on a warm soft corn tortilla. The chicken meat was very tender and flavorful. All in all a very good experience and meal. Pricing was good as well, less than $20 for two people to eat lunch. They had more expensive dishes on the menu, but even those were reasonable prices.

Taco Central has a nice variety of menu options. There are small plates, salads, and meals. Chips and salsa were brought to the table and I fell in love with their salsa. I actually asked for a second one and scooped more than a reasonable amount onto each tortilla chip. For dinner I got the carnitas enchiladas. That came with 4 enchiladas, rice, pico, lettuce, and refried beans. I chose both red and green salsas. The red salsa was delightfully flavored with a bit of heat and the green was flavorful and mild. The portion was enough that I had half of that for dinner and took the other half home for lunch the next day. My boyfriend got 4 tacos (2 orders of 2 each - I don’t remember the meat he chose). The sizes were larger than other nearby restaurants. He enjoyed every last bite and left a clean plate. For a drink we ordered a medium pineapple and mango margarita. The medium was about 18oz and we got 2 straws. The margarita was very well made, not too sweet and not too strong. It was really tasty and we drank the whole thing! The prices are on par with nearby restaurants, however the drink prices seemed to me to be slightly less expensive. The atmosphere is very welcoming with charming table vases, wood decor throughout, including the tables. The music was at a good level, loud enough to be enjoyed but low enough that we could hear each other at the table. The restaurant is very clean, including the bathroom. The owner, David, was very personable and funny - he also makes good recommendations. We tried Taco Central off a friends’s recommendation and needless to say we will be...
