I was bringing my Skagen watches here for years to change the batteries, which was fine. I have one watch in particular (that I loved) with a very specific tapered band that had only been replaced through Skagen but was discontinued. My husband decided to surprise me by taking the watch to Lewis Jewelers to hopefully replace the band. Lewis jewelers told him they have a watch repair person in NY who could take care of it but “it’s going to cost you.” Being that it was a gift, he told them he didn’t care about the cost. Fast forward, the watch is received from NY & the work done on it was so shoddy, unappealing, & the band didn’t fit the dimensions of the watch face. My husband refused to pay for it. He was told they will take it back to NY and have it removed. We received the watch back and it was damaged. The bottom left corner of the face was scratched & gouged. The back of the watch was also damaged making the edge sharp. The glass face had scratches. 2/4 of the screws on the back to replace the band were stripped. I wore this watch as a Registered Nurse performing hands on care for about 5yrs & the watch never sustained any damage. What sort of watch repair person causes this much damage? What reputable business would provide such poor workmanship to a paying customer? I would never give another dime of money to Lewis Jewelers as they clearly don’t care about the workmanship of companies to whom they outsource. Still super annoyed years later when I think about the watch sitting in my jewelry box. It’s absolutely ok to say you are unable to accomplish something being asked of you. It’s respectable really. Producing poor work is not.
In response to Stuart: There was no expectation the watch band be perfectly tapered as the original. It was expected, however, that the band would at least look presentable. The band was mangled and looked as if it was taken from another old watch and placed on mine. My husband described it as looking like Frankenstein. Perhaps you didn't look at it before you presented it to my husband? The watch is not anywhere near an "unusual configuration." You describe it as if he brought in a vintage Bulova watch with unique links that could only be produced by the original manufacturer or perhaps a unique leather hide that could only be found on one specific type of cow in a far corner of the world. We were looking for a leather watch band that looked nice to make the watch wearable. No, my husband did not notice the damage your watch repair person caused. He does not wear the watch and did not expect it to come back to him damaged. I wear the watch and it is/was absolutely damaged. Had we not sought your EXPERTISE as a jeweler, the watch would indeed have continued to awaiting a band but it would have been undamaged. We appreciate you trying to find someone. However, the quarrel is the poor quality in which the work was performed. As the jewelry shop owner and to ensure you don't return a piece with poorly performed work to a customer, at minimum, you should inspect the quality of a repair that has been outsourced. Then, you would not have to absorb any costs. Even so, I would not expect that your business that has been in existence for 37 years would pass off the cost of subpar work to a customer. But that was...
Read moreIt’s rare to find real customer service these days. Buying an engagement ring is daunting and it was incredibly reassuring that the owner took my calls personally and helped guide me through the process. After a few quick conversations about criteria Mr. Williams set off to find my ring. With his professional advice it was decided that I would have a custom built setting to fit my needs. I was updated the entire time as they hand-selected my diamond while his team designed and built the ring. Shipping was fast and secure. I ended up with a completely custom ring, designed and built with a hand-picked diamond, shipped to me in 3 weeks (all the way to Florida). Online retailers quoted me six or more weeks and local retailers wanted more money for junk diamonds on Chinese made settings (unroll the little tags and read the “made in” line next time you are in a Jared’s/Kays and notice how many uncertified/non-GIA stones they have in stock). All the paperwork including an appraisal and original GIA certificate accompanied my ring in an elegant cushioned ring box. This process was incredibly stressful for me until I was referred to Mr. Williams at Lewis Jewelers and I just hope to save others the heartache. I’m certain I was not a “big fish” client but I was treated with the time and respect as if I was. My fiancée was so moved by the quality of her ring she’s already asking to call about wedding...
Read moreI recommend everyone I can to Lewis jewelers. I went there originally looking for a chain for my daughters charm and saw a bracelet of interest. I explained I sort of liked it bc it was similar to one that was very sentimental to me but broke and couldn't be fixed. To which they replied why cant it be fixed? I said I dont know I took it three different jewelry stores and they said it couldn't be fixed. The woman said to bring it to her and she would look at it. I had it in my car so I ran and got it, she told me the other places should not have said that because it was absolutely fixable and that in fact they were probably just trying to get me to buy a new tennis bracelet rather than the cheaper option of fixing mine. They took it in and within a week called me to let me know my favorite bracelet was now ready to wear and they cleaned my daughters charm so it was just as shiny and new as the necklace it was going on. They were amazing and honest and not trying to just sell me stuff to sell it. I appreciate beyond words them fixing my bracelet. They have won a forever customer...
