We had heard good things about Elvira's, but until today had not stopped in. They were wrong; it's not good, it's great! The decor is fantastic. Lots and lots of hand painted seat backs, tables and wall art. I made the mistake of ordering Elvira's favorite. I realized my mistake when my meal was served on two plates. I immediately requested a to-go box, and went through the hard choice of what to eat at the restaurant. Included was a taco, and enchilada, a tostada, chili, beans, and rice. I started on the chili. With a fork. Big chunks of savory meat in an excellent sauce. Then the taco, which had melted cheese on the outside of the shell. Like eating nachos and tacos at the same time. Excellent flavor on the meat, too. The beans and rice were better than I normally get. My wife ordered the mini-chimis. I tired a taste of one of them. It came with 6; 5 came home with us, since she was sampling my platters. Our waitress was more than helpful in navigating the menu, and keeping our beverages topped off, which I appreciated, since the hot sauce was indeed ho. And tasty. Kudos to the owners and staff. We'll be back for sure!

If you don't already know, this used to be called Elvira's. Not much has changed other than the name on the outside of the building. Everything Inside still shouts the old name. Service was poor. Unbelievably slow! Bus boy was excellent, but waitress Yvette was unfriendly, and couldn't crack a smile to save her life. We asked if they had queso, and were told "no" even though it's listed on the menu. We saw at least 5 or 6 employees just standing near the cash register, while we sat and waited, and WAITED for someone to take even our drink order. There were only 7 tables with people in the entire place including ours. Food came out fairly quickly, but one plate was ice cold (even though she brought it with a hot pad), and the chicken quesadilla along with the burritos were bland, and totally flavorless. Quesadilla was nothing but shredded chicken(no seasoning what so ever) and cheese. Same with the burritos. No green chili or anything. Meat in a Mexican restaurant should have tons of flavor and flare! Not here. I'm not sure why they changed name, but ABSOLUTELY nothing else has changed. Don't waste your money here!

The service was non-existent. The lady who brought chips was the only one that appeared in a timely manner. Even they had only 4 tables with diners and 4 ladies in the reception area. No one bothered to come take my order, after about 10 minutes of eating chips & salsa, I was out of salsa (tiny bowl). I stood up and stared at the 4 workers chatting and standing around the front desk. Finally, someone was dispatched to take my lunch special order. I asked for carne asada street tacos (Taco Tuesday). The speed of order delivery was satisfactory, but it was plain tasteless beef, not carne asada. When I was done eating, again I waited and waited, finally got up and went to get my own small to go box. I never did get a bill, so I took my to go box up to the 4 ladies standing around the reception area, and they finally came up with a bill. It is obvious why Los Gringos is packed at lunch time, and Taco Giro had a total of 4 tables with lunch diners waiting for service, just like me.

This was the worst dining experience we have had since making Apache Junction our wintering grounds five years ago. Our party of four adults arrived at 6 pm on a Friday evening and the restaurant was about 1/3 full. It took them 20 minutes to find a booth for us when there were two empty ones when we walked in. Chips and salsa came right away (salsa was very unsavory) and our drink order taken. 30 minutes later the drinks had not arrived and we had to ask for water. Finally when the drinks arrived they took our food order, which was very difficult because the menu has limited options and the waiter had no idea what could be substituted. To order two enchiladas you had to order ala-cart. Beans and rice extra, sour cream extra $1.25 for a medicine cup size. Food took over 30 more minutes to arrive and the strawberry margarita's were orange and tasted terrible. They also had powdered sugar coating the rim. Waiter never returned the entire meal to ask how things were or if we needed more drinks. While we were there waiting for our meals, the whole restaurant started smelling like burnt toast. Probably explains why we only got three of our four meals at one time, fourth arrived 10 minutes later and the side order of beans came 10 minutes after that and tasted very burnt. None of us finished our meals and two of the margaritas went untouched. We could not wait to get out of there, but it took another 15 minutes to get our check. The hostess at the checkout counter asked "How was everything" so I explained our ordeal. Her answer was "well we will have to work on that." No offer to deduct anything and we paid full price for our so called meals. $80 for a party of four. This place should be avoided. There are better Mexican restaurants in Apache Junction, including Taco Bell right across the street. So wishing we had gone there instead. One star given because...

I wish I would have read the reviews before we went. We decided to go for the $10 all you can eat fish but they ran out of fish when we tried to reorder more and still charged us $10.99 for the fish even though the banner sign on front of restaurant says $10 in a big number and unless you look really close there is .99 in small print on the bottom. This wouldn't have bothered us if the rest of the dinner didn't look looks badly and switch too. First we sat for over 30 minutes when we walked in waiting for drinks after eating our chips. Dinner took another 30 minutes but no refill on alcohol drinks. After meal came it was impossible to get any help. We were shopping anyone who would listen to us. After complaining to the manager she bought us dessert because they were out of fish so no alk you could eat. Then we had to sit and wait to get our bill that was suppose to be spilt but wasn't and enviably was incorrect. When we asked for explanation the woman at the counter was unable to help. It was a complete disaster and we finally begged to just pay so we could leave. We watched three tables walk out because they too couldn't get service. We will never go back. My meal was horrible and we spent over $75 for four of us with drinks which came out different everytime. We were all frustrated and wished we would have walked out when we first started having problems. Always hate to report such a bad review for mom and pop shop but they really don't understand service and their excuse was the cook told the waitresses they were out of fish. Hate when they blame their own staff and that is suppose to excuse why everything was so...

WARNING this is not the place to eat. My Wife and I stopped after church for a late breakfast. What a mistake, I'll cover just the low lights. We asked for extra napkins 3 times and finally got 2 napkins. My wife ordered eggs and ordered an extra egg it finally arrived at the later part of the meal. My Wife asked 3 times for a drink refill and 3 times we were told coming right up, the refills NEVER arrived. We tried to wave down the waitress, we could see she was more interested in the game on TV. Now if you like oil you will love this my potatoes came raw yes uncooked and dripping oil, my eggs were cooked as I requested but dripping oil, I looked at my wifes food and hers was the same. When we finally got the waitress she evident know what to do. I also asked for hot sauce she said they didn't have any and went for the manager. She returned with salsa for hot sauce. The manager offered to recook the potatoes, we were done with the lack of service and poor food quality and refused this offer. My wife asked again for a refill. Well no refill came nor did the bill. In disgust, we got up and paid at the counters. Oversights there were few people in a restaurant at 12 noon, and staff watching the game bad news. I and my wife as well as my friends will never go to this place again, and if you are smart don't go...
