Calypso Coffee Bar — Restaurant in Apopka

My fiancé has asked me to take her to Calypso Coffee Bar for quite some time since seeing their coffee flights on social media, and we finally had time today and I am so glad that we did!

This is by far the coolest coffee shop I've been to with the best coffee I've had in years! I don't even know where to start...

First and foremost, the theme is based on Greek mythology, which in itself made us interested after seeing their flights. When you walk in, the decor is bright, colorful, fun, coordinated, there are Greek mythology books on the table, homemade candles for sale, and there is even an area for a photo shoot. There are so many fun things for your eyes and items for sale such as bags of coffee are available along the walls!

Now, the most important part - The coffee. As a former Starbucks Store Manager and food & beverage reviewer for Google, I am a bit of a coffee snob lol and I was blown away by the flavor notes, intensity, cold foam topping, all of it. Every bit of the drink was on point. 👌 The absolutely phenomenal drink that I got was the, "Hecate's Brew," which is described on the menu, written by the owner, as:

Latte. Butterscotch & Caramel. Topped with Caramel Cold Foam. Served Hot or Iced.

Caramel Drizzle Contains Dairy. Non-Dairy excludes Caramel Drizzle.

Something else that we observed was the local collaborations were you could purchase certain menu items and receive something in return from another local business that the company is partnering with. This type of collaboration is exactly what we strive to support in the community, businesses that help show support for other businesses.

We went at a great time, around 2pm, which was perfect because we had the pleasure to be warmly greeted by the owner who proceeded to tell us all about how Calypso is a family owned business, and how her father, uncle(s), and family source the beams from Guatemala personally. She then continued to say that their business helps their local community in Guatemala and showed us pictures and videos of her family working, the people that they helped, etc. My fiancé was covered in goosebumps and I was speechless as we love philanthropy and actually do some of our own on the side.

We were truly delighted by the experience and furthermore proud that we not only supported a locally owned family business but furthermore that our coffee purchase made a difference, along with the small contribution that the checkout allowed us to add on, as an option.

If you have dog allergies do NOT visit this place. I went in for a coffee to support local business and when I walked in there was a lady and her daughter inside with a small dog. The dog was not controlled and was running up to other customers. The owner of the dog apparently had an incident in the bathroom so one of the employees decided to pick the dog up to hold it. My son, who was with me, is allergic to dogs. After seeing the employee holding the dog I alerted the employee who was making my coffee and preparing my son’s pastries about his allergies just to make sure there was no cross contamination. This information was shared with the employee who was physically holding the dog on her work apron. Without any regard to my son’s allergies she informed me this was a dog friendly establishment. I have absolutely no idea why a food/coffee place that is so small and all indoors is dog friendly and let alone why people who have allergies take a back seat to animals. My son had a terrible allergic reaction after eating his food from here and needed medical treatment. The worker did not change her apron after holding the dog nor did I see her even wash her hands. I was not aware that these kind of establishments are even legally allowed to have dogs inside (unless service animals) let alone employees physically holding them or I would have never visited. BEST COFFEE OF CENTRAL FLORIDA! 😍🤤 Calypso coffee is a Greek Mythology themed coffee shop with Greek Mythology themed specialty drinks that are so creative, unique, DELICIOUS, and the smoothest coffee we’ve ever had and we’ve traveled and had coffee from small mom and pop coffee shops all over the USA, and Calypso is honestly the best and we buy their coffee beans to drink at home too. Like we would travel out of our way to go here. Not only are they a small family owned business, but they share their story of how their family in Guatemala sources their coffee beans from Guatemala, the elevation they grow the coffee, the time, love, and meticulous care their whole family puts into growing the finest, highest quality coffee beans, and if their story isn’t enough to make you absolutely fall in love with this place, then their coffee and food for sure will!! The owner(s) are so sweet, and have a real passion for this and you can tell just by how they talk about their family coffee bean farm, this coffee shop, the creativity behind creating this coffee shop, everything about Calypso is charming and welcoming.
