El Sabor Mexican Grill — Restaurant in Appleton

I haven’t been “wow”ed by a restaurant in years, and this place was off the charts! The service was top-notch, with our server being very friendly and helpful during our visit. They have indoor seating with a small bar, as well as a patio for outside diners. They bring a very visually authentic atmosphere, which even includes complimentary red, white and green chips that accompanied the red salsa, white cheese sauce and green sauce! All three sauces were so flavorful that we agreed our tastebuds were already satisfied, even if we didn’t order a meal, but of course we did. We ordered two dinners: the al pastor tacos and the pollo con mole- both excellent and filling dishes. The mole sauce was better than we have been able to find in over 20 years. My fiancé and I came for lunch today and were so excited to try the chicken tinga burrito. We walked in to only one server (on a Friday lunch) who was busy taking another tables order, no worries. We are told to seat ourselves in one of the two clean middle tables. So we sat down after 5 minutes of waiting and were just hoping to get a water in a reasonable time. 20 minutes goes by, our server has taken drink and food orders for 2 tables and messed up on one of the tables drink order. I was drawn to El Sabor by its highest average review score for Mexican food in Appleton -- the small, unassuming exterior made me raise an eyebrow, but the table markers with a quick blurb asking for your review solved that mystery quickly and certainly influenced my decision to leave one, but the five stars are warranted.

The "perfect margarita" was delicious and well-portioned, the tableside guacamole was delicious and beautifully pressnted, and my wife and I loved our meaty, flavorful entrees.
