Pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere, nicer than expected. Friday night and busy was a good sign. The menu items looked pricey but the descriptions looked like they might be worth the money. I asked our waitress if we could add chicken and mushrooms to the fettuccine Alfredo and she quickly started looking over the menu looking for something that already had chicken and mushrooms in it and recommended one of them. I asked for a couple more minutes and then noticed above was a description saying that you could add chicken for $4 and mushrooms $1.50. The plate was $18, adding the chicken and mushrooms totaled $23.50; an extremely high price for food in the Appomattox area but I was still hoping it would be worth it. It wasn't. The clam chowder that came with a meal was gray and very thick but good tasting. The fettuccine Alfredo was a good portion. Not long after the plate was set, the butter started separating from the sauce. The chicken was cut up into little chunks and was very rubbery. I don't think it was made fresh. The mushrooms were okay but they were very few of them. The pizza was a good size but nothing really special. The owner's wife happened around and spoke to us before we received our meals. She was saying that she heard that their prices were high but that their ingredients come straight from New York. For instance, they're tiramisu comes from New York. I'm not sure why that would be better than freshly made at the restaurant. I wouldn't say I left disappointed because I wasn't expecting much in the first place. I could definitely get better Italian food and Lynchburg for the same or less of the price. It would be nice if they would act upon the feedback that they say they have been getting and make some changes. Get local chicken from the farms here in Appomattox, make it fresh! Don't cut it up into little chunks, chicken breast on a plate is worth the extra money. Make sure the Alfredo sauce is made properly so it does not separate. At least serve butter with the plain bread that comes with the meal. I love the idea of high-end restaurants coming to Appomattox. It would set us apart and be worth the trip...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI ordered a calzone and for $15, I honestly expected more. Walking in, the decor was rather delightful and the staff was friendly enough. But the food, extremely sub-par. The breading was just that, bread. There was really no flavor. The garlic I asked for was just dumped in the center and I couldn't find any riccatta. I didn't receive the tomato sauce and the ranch was mostly mayonnaise. It isn't "bad" to say, but it's definitely nothing special. There's really no difference between OIP and every other low end Italian restaurant I've visited. I was really hoping for more and it just made me miss Mama T's even more. Based on this, I don't see a reason to try...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFor the last year my family and friends have enjoyed lunch at OIP every Sunday after church. The food is great, prices are reasonable and staff are outstanding. Rebecca, Stephanie and Samona have been so helpful. Initially they would fix a to go lunch for my Mom whose health prevented her from joining us. They would ask how she was doing every week. When my father began to exhibit health issues, they were so kind to him. Now my husband is ill and they fix lunch for him every week. The staff and the owners are like family and I appreciate their kindness more than they will...
