I like this place, but don't expect to be blown away. This place is new-ish; they opened last year after one (or is it two?) other Chinese places failed in the same spot. Not sure if they got their credit machine from New Golden House or what, but I digress.
One thing I do really like is that they are talkative. Maybe it sounds weird, but to me it makes a place feel more comfortable if you can talk about things with the staff. Undoubtedly you will run into a slight language barrier; I've gotten my order wrong even after clarifying it on the phone and in-perso. Sadly, that's kind of unavoidable with Chinese places...
Prices are fair. This is not the cheapest place in the area, nor is it the most expensive. Portions are probably what you would expect, the Chinese takeout industry has pretty much standardized on that, with good reason.
Things I've tried from here are mostly chicken dishes. I'm very fond of the Coconut Chicken which doesn't seem to be at a lot of places (try it spicy)! The Tso's and Sesame Chicken is solid, Kung Pao is fine. They suggested their Crispy Chicken but I found it to be worse than most places I've tried. They've got decent rice (brown rice too if you're willing to pay an extra buck, even though it isn't on the menu) and food has always been hot/fresh.
If you're on a budget, check out their lunch combos (which you should be doing with any takeout restaurant really). They're almost all under six bucks. Also the happy meal thing is pretty good; it has a nice variety of stuff, is cheap, and...
Read moreI read great reviews on this restaurant in Grubhub so I decided to try it out. And I'm glad I did! I ordered Shumai, Tofu w/ mixed vegetables, Mu Shu Chicken & House Special Mei Fun. Everything was delicious and came in generous servings. The only thing that disappointed me was they didn't have the Chili Crisp sauce that would have gone well w/ the Shumai. Also the Shumais were smaller than what I expected. But aside from that, everything else was delicious! I will order from Fire Wok again. And I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes good Chinese food 👍🏽😊🥰 👍🏽

I’ve ordered from Fire Wok several time before. And their food used to be good. I ordered from them again about 2 weeks ago. Their house special lo mein, which is supposed to include meats and shrimps and veggies, hardly had anything in it at all. The quality seems to have gone down 👎🏽. I was not happy about that 😕. Not sure if I’ll order...
Read moreI was recommended this Fire Wok in a gluten free group as one of the few safe gluten free Chinese restaurants in the DMV. I ached for (good) Chinese food since my celiac diagnosis and it has been so hard to find. Another restaurant closer to me glutened me on about half of my visits. Fire Wok has not glutened me yet after about 10 visits. The food is always so tasty, enjoyable, and quick. Without exaggeration, if I lived in or around Arbutus, I would likely finance the entire restaurant with how often I'd like to order. Unfortunately, I live a ways away and only can get it once every month or two when I visit my friend. I recommended Fire Wok to my friends during a game night and now the group is as likely to bring up ordering as I am because of the quality of the food. It's not just good gluten free Chinese, it's good /and/ can be gluten free.
Thank you for many great meals and I'm looking forward to many...
