I appreciate the owners response and clarification on my experience so I went ahead and revised my rating. It seems it was a defensive misunderstanding with a new employee learning the menu/syrups.
I understand being a small family owned business and things will be out time to time. No ones perfect, and things will happen and people will be unlucky. It's not a huge factor on this review unless it really is a consistent thing.
I'll support this business again, and hope the next time will be smoother.
First time they were out of pancakes an hour and a half before brunch ended. It was also freezing. Thatâs alright it happens. 2nd time in I was ordering a snickerdoodle latte but I was told they were out of vanilla syrup⌠asked if the Crème brulee latte could be made and he said no since it has the syrup. ok no big deal. I ordered chai and sat down after grabbing my drink. I proceeded to hear drinks with vanilla syrup in it be called after my order, I thought I was crazy but I specifically heard âVanilla bean latte!â Be called out after my drink and be given to someone who came in after me. Made eye contact with the cashier and he looked guilty to say the least. I also ordered pancakes so once I got those i sat at a table nearest to the register and so I can hear what the kid working was telling people. Interestingly enough he stopped shouting drink orders, but I literally saw him grab a bottle of white syrup (I assume vanilla) and hand someone a latte. so who knows if they were really out, he resumed telling people he was out. (Only heard once, after this I was fed up and left) They seem to be very selective on who they use their ingredients on. I donât know what kind of weird micro aggression they have going on there but being the only person of color inside at the time, yet being told theyâre out of something only to make it for someone who ordered after me is crazy. Will be back to test this theory and warn...
Read moreMe and my wife - who'd just given birth to triplets five and a half days prior to our visit here - had the most rotten experience one could imagine at a coffee shop. We go in (my wife still limping from the birthing) and find a seat near the door. We take out our laptops and both jump onto zoom meetings. Well, less than 10 minutes into our meetings, we're are bothered by a worker, who told we'd have to leave if we didn't purchase something. We explained that we would be purchasing food and drinks - after our meetings. The lady walked away and then audibly whined to her manager about us in the back room. Manager came over less than 5 minutes later and told us to leave - interrupting our meeting and gravely embarrassing us to the point where I had to go to 7 consecutive 3 hour therapy sessions to overcome the trauma. I still can't walk by this coffee spot with out having shivers of PTSD - and my lovely wife has been similarly affected. Since the experience, I've had to get a vasectomy, fearing that the triplets may have cursed my wife and my luck. For a while, I actually believed that the triplets were bad luck and in some way contributed to this awful experience - but, my therapist has reassured me that the triplets had nothing to do with it. The reality is, according to my therapist, that the employees working at Northtown coffee (at least on the day I visited) were projecting their own personal insufficiencies and limited faculties. I take no pleasure in writing this review, but am doing so as a PSA to the Humboldt Community, which I...
Read moreThey dont open until 8am... people have to be at work at that time you guys. Open earlier please! Also, the only way to make a pick up order is online. Rural communities have large portions of disenfranchised people without access to the internet, so, thats another mark against them. I asked for 1/4 shot of honey in my matcha today and watched the barista turn his back to me to block my view of how much honey he put in it. Guess what, he put a lot in and the drink is 4.50. I think this place is trying to pander to college students who are doing classes online. This means they dont get the regular foot traffic heading toward HSU as they have before. If they would consider the community demographic they would realize how much business they are losing out on by not opening earlier and taking a phone order. (There were 5 ppl in line at ramones at about 7am this today when I tried to get matcha there because old muddy waters doesnt open till 8am, but they are the only place in town with matcha so... i was...
