The burritos here are pretty good and are decently sized. Beef and pork-based dishes are tender, but chicken tends to be a bit dry. I've been a repeat customer but had a very negative experience on my most recent trip when my friend and I went here to eat dinner.
First some background: each burrito order comes with a side of tortilla chips, and these chips tend to be cut rather large (which is good: large chips are usually better lol) but the salsa bar only has these flimsy, tiny paper cups to hold the salsa. You'd have to make multiple trips to the salsa bar to get a decent amount of salsa, and moreover, the thin paper cups absorb the salsa fluid over time and the paper gets soggy and the salsa gets dry. Now add the fact that the chips are rather large, so not only is it very hard to dip a large chip into a tiny salsa cup, you're barely getting any salsa on each dip and need to dip multiple times as you take bites. So definitely a nuisance. I wish the cups were larger.
So I asked for two water cups, which are also rather small (holds about 6 to 8 ounces), and discovered that these were the perfect size to hold salsa. They were made of plastic and transparent. Unfortunately, as I was about to add salsa to them, the lady at the counter loudly stopped me and said they can't be used for salsa. I asked if it was a health department policy, and she said it was not but was instead a store policy. I was annoyed by this because it seems capricious and nonsensical. I asked if it was to stop people from getting too much salsa, and her exact words were, "You need to be considerate of other customers who don't want to see salsa in water cups."
What the hell? Did she think I would add water to a salsa-tainted cup at the water fountain and drink from it? On this same order, I already asked for water cups to drink from and she saw me put water in those cups while waiting for my food. And do people actually scrutinize the specific containers that other customers put their salsa into? I personally don't care what people put their salsa into. And also, because these cups are larger, when you scoop salsa into them, the salsa is less likely to drip down the side and contaminate the salsa pool. Ever tried ladling salsa into a tiny container and had the salsa drip off the side and back into the pool? Or worse yet, risk the salsa dripping on a finger? These larger cups would have avoided that.
It annoys me greatly that this person would enforce an arbitrary and nonsensical "rule" or worse yet, go on some sort of power trip against a repeat, paying customer who simply wanted to rectify a major deficiency in how the...
Read moreAfter patronizing this place for many, many years, I will NOT go back. Would you if you were treated poorly? I had gone there to buy a large bag of their freshly made chips and fantastic red salsa after my visit a week prior. There was a new young man at the counter who I had never seen there before.
The service was fast. I was in and out in less than 3 minutes, if that.
When I arrived home. the bag of chips were in the eyes of my family. When I opened the salsa container, all I saw was salsa looking watery soup. I took a chip and tasted the salsa. Eh. Something was wrong! I never have opened anything from them enroute home, else I would have noticed something was amiss.
Mistakes happen.
Since I frequently go north on I-10...yes north...not west...(which confuses all out of town visitors), I decided to return the salsa. Hey...no harm done except disappointment. Right? Upon entering the restaurant, the same young man was at the register. I explained what happened. He looked at me like Elmer Fudd! (For readers who have no idea who Elmer Fudd is, just ask a few relatives or friends.)
A woman who seemed to be the manger was standing very close by, asked me to clarify the problem. She gave a nod to the young man who filled up a pint container and gave it to me. It was the same size that I had bought the night before.
I was waiting for a large bag of chips, too. He rang it up and asked for $1.07. The woman overheard what as said and added "you didn't return the chips!" I said we began to munch on them. They were so good and fresh and crispy, I said, speaking in a complimentary tone of voice.
It wasn't the $1.07 that bugged me like all heck, it was the poor customer service said in an insulting way to the amazement if the soo to be customers behind me. I did NOT take the chips. However, I asked "is this the way you shoo away a long time customer, especially one who has returned again and again?" There was no reply. So..to the owners of the Original Burrito Company, bye bye! All for $1.07.
I'll tell you what I would have done. As a business owner myself, I would have apologized to the customer and offered, not only a bag of chips, but a gift certificate of $25 at the least, to make amends and keep that customer happy. Instead of that, they got...
Read moreThis is the most back wards company I have ever came across. I am a regular customer at this location and I order chicken tortilla soup every time I come here. Well this time ,I thought, was no different until I get home and open the pint of chicken tortilla soup and to my surprise there was no chicken. I called back to ask if they were serving a different soup today and they told me no. So I proceed to let her know that I didn't have any chicken in my soup and also that I had requested it when I placed my order. Her response was that they don't put chicken in the soup and if I wanted chicken that I should have let them know. I reiterated to her that I did ask them to put chicken in my soup and that the 2 years that I have been a regular customer that this has never happened before. As I was explaining to her my situation she would talk over me on the phone and cut me off as I was talking. Instead of fixing my meal and making the customer happy (like any other professional restaurant organization would have) she told me that next time I come in that u should let them know that I want chicken in my soup. I let here know that it was like buying a hamburger with no meat! I was really confused and dissapointed that she would tell me that after I told her I did. As I was saying this to her she told me to have a nice day and hung up the phone on me. All I can say know is that they lost a loyal customer and I will be sure to let friends and...
