Every Sunday we eat breakfast at this place. We have never had any issues until this past Sunday. Family members from out of town came to visit so on Sunday we wanted to eat all together at Jay Jay, so we get there we were a big party (16) so I go in and request a table for my party. The manager says we have no space for you guys. I m like well how long is the wait (you as a costumer should decide if you wait 100 hours or not) and he would not give me an approximate. He would just kept saying you would have to wait a long time plus we do not have space for all of you. So I asked again how long is the wait? he wouldn’t say. So I stepped outside and my sister in law stayed inside with the rest of the group. She heard when one of the waitresses say there is a big group waiting and they just won’t leave. My sister in law looked at them and they asked if she was part of the big group. Then the manager stepped in and said it’s not that we don’t want you here it’s just that... Well I don’t think this is the way to treat customers specially customers that go there every Week. I think it was so unprofessional of them to make comments like that in front of clients. Soooo disappointed in how we were treated. We were willing to wait, but, they just did not want us...
Read moreVery good food. The TATER TOTS... were GBD... crispy, not greasy (not any on my plate would love to know how they did THAT lol), that perfect crunch when you bite into them, and instead, they were not heavy like potatoes but perfectly done fluffy pillows of hot heaven wrapped in crispy, crunchy Golden Brown Deliciousness! The only down is they had ZERO seasoning. They would have been the perfect total on the planet with a touch of spicy seasoning or salt pepper and garlic. When they were hot, they didn't need ketchup or any condiment. Would make great chili cheese tots with mustard and chopped red onions on the side. One of the other servers, not ours, made me a chocolate chiffon pie to take home because they were out in the pie case like it was just as easy as bringing me a glass of water. She was so sweet and of course I forgot her name. We were there 2/23/24 @ 1:30, so maybe she may read this and know that I appreciated what she did and if we had more cash I would have given her a way bigger tip. The one on the CC/ticket went to our server. I felt really bad, only given her $4. I just keep a couple of $ for my lunch adventures with the littles at school for...
Read moreWalked into Jay Jay Cafe with low expectations and high cholesterol, and let me tell you—it did not disappoint. The menu reads like your Southern grandma’s diary: chicken fried everything, gravy where vegetables should be, and breakfast available anytime because naps are also anytime.
I ordered the daily special, which I think was called “Regret on a Plate”—chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes with enough butter to ski on, and a roll that could qualify as a flotation device. Washed it down with unsweetened tea, because I like to pretend I’m making healthy choices while my plate wheezes.
Then came the strawberry pie.
I didn’t order it. It just showed up. I swear it floated out of the kitchen on a cloud of Cool Whip. One bite and I knew: this pie had been blessed by someone’s meemaw. The strawberries were fresh, the crust was flaky, and for a brief moment, I forgot my name, social security number, and every time I said I was “cutting back on sugar.”
Jay Jay Cafe isn’t just a restaurant. It’s therapy—served warm, with gravy, and a slice of pie that’ll change your life. Or at least...
