New ownership has turned what recently was the best sushi in the DMV to now an overpriced, tasteless disaster.
This downgrade is courtesy of the all-to-familiar systematic extermination of family-owned quality businesses. Arlington locals and sushi lovers will remember Endo Sushi as the best sushi in NoVA. It was owned by the most wonderful family you will ever meet. They served high-quality sushi in beautiful authentic Japanese surroundings. Prices were extremely reasonable, particularly for the exceptional quality of fish. The staff truly cared about their customers. As a regular, my partner and I would go in at least 3-4 times per month, they knew our names and even knew our favorite orders before we asked for them. Truely an elite, local experience.
No longer. Since being bought by a mega-conglomerate last month, the quality of service has disappeared and the quality of food has vanished. The corporation kept on the staff for a couple of weeks to smooth the transition, but now they are all gone. In the place of friendly family are random temporary workers with no interest in any connection or providing customer service. In the place of high-quality fish is graying salmon, brown avocados, and changes to several of the cornerstones of the menu. Prices are now also through the roof--the identical meal we have been ordering for $45 just rang up for $75 a month later. Do not see this as inflation, this is price gouging.
By way of evidence, I attach two photos. One, a few months ago of the incredible high quality rolls during a graduation celebration (we hosted all of our important milestones at Endo, after all). The second, tonight's disorderly disaster, with browning avocados and low-grade, gas station rice and fish. An embarrassing transition.
We have gone back twice since the transition. The first visit, the staff was still there but the food quality had dropped. Assuming it was a fluke, we went back again tonight to find the food continues to decline and now the staff is all gone.
I expect you will find the corporate-management-auto-response below this review, saying that they "appreciate this review," "strive for the best service and quality" and aim for the "highest standards." Do not be deceived. Save your money, support...
Read moreWe went and ordered Sushi Special and Chirasi and I have to say... This place is above and beyond. It is pricey for sure... But the quality of the sashimi and sushi... Their utensils are legitimate, heavy logo framed chopsticks, cute cat chopstick holder, fresh salad and evenly cut tofu miso soup. The details here are as if you were eating almost fine dining. The sushi special was $51 for 15 pieces. I think that's expensive. But I did a girls math, okay that's like $3.3 per piece, and the quality... when I saw how it came out in the wooden box, each piece so delicate and the meat is cut fat and long, fresh, I think this place is by far one of the best sushi in the DMV area other than Sushi Nakazawa. It's equivalent/better than Sushi Taro in D.C. for sure. Much better than Sushi Yume, Tachibana, Sushi Cho. If you are a sushi lover you must go, every penny is worth here. Super clean and friendly. I didn't like the yuzu flavored on chirasi, I wished it could be just chirasi with no yuzu scent. Other than that, even the fried head shrimp looked so handsome, I felt bad taking a bite LOL. Everything tasted really great. I've already visited twice since my first visit recently. This place will be my regular. Please continue to keep...
Read moreAn absolutely must go if you are in the Arlington area. I am not sure how the 1 star reviews claim that Endo sushi was better (especially on the service on end) as they are both great in their own right. What I will say is that Sushi Jip has wowed me ever since I went for the first time a month ago. My girlfriend and I were in absolute shock in regards to both the portion size and the quality of the sushi (this comes from someone who does not find sushi to be that filling). Every single item that we have tried so far has been absolutely delicious, favorites being the spicy tuna roll and the blue crab spicy tuna specialty roll. Also to note, this is the first sushi that I've had that doesn't completely fall apart after the first bite :). The sake selection that they offer is also extensive The icing on the cake is the absolute superb service that EVERY single one of the staff has delivered. They go out of their way to make sure you enjoy your meal. Not sure where people have gotten that this was bought out by a "conglomerate" because this is a true family business where they go out of their way to make you feel...
